Just finished the new door cards for SWK - if anyone else is suffering the tops of the standard doorcards distorting etc. this may be of interest:
Mine looked AWFUL after the two years since they were re-covered, so I decided to make new ones. The problem of the distortion on the top edge was resolved by using old tops from a VP. I got new weatherstrip from Woolies and removed the walnut inserts, replacing them with wood batons from B&Q which I covered in the vinyl used for the upholstery. Then I made copies of the old cards minus the top bit in 3.6mm marine ply. I decided to put a bit of profiling in so I used two different thicknesses of scrim foam:
Then I simply cut out the yellow and black to match and stitched them together, glued them onto the foam and finished them off with an upholstery stapler on the inside. I also fitted two 6" speaker pods to get sound into the front of the car. Here`s the finished article:
Look much better now!
Cheers
