I finally got around to trying to fit the halogen headlights that I bought from the spares service a couple of years ago. Unfortunately this turned out to be a little more difficult than anticipated.

If Lavinia had 1 or 7 fittings it would be straightforward. Unfortunately she has 19.

Does anyone have any experience of converting from one type to the other?
Is it straight forward, or are there a few "gotchas" along the way? I'm particularly concerned that there doesn't appear to be an equivalent to part 21 as a listed part for the other two fitments. Will this need to be replaced also or will it be the same for all types of fitting?

Here are a few pictures of Lavinia's headlight mountings. Can anyone please take a few pictures of the other type of mountings so I can see the key differences.

Thanks.

Mike.

I could take some photos but not for a couple of weeks unfortunately.

It looks like the Cibie lights you have, fitted to some S3's, have completely different fittings. I think you would need to start again, with the Lucas metal plates (riveted to the headlamp apertures), plastic captive nuts, screws, funny special screw things, white plastic nuts, split pins, spacers and clamping frames. Basically the whole lot is different.

Your best bet is to get complete assemblies (the metal plate will need to be drilled out from the car) and use that with your new lamp unit. I think you should be able to use a complete unit from any S1 or S2 car, early ones had sealed beam lights but that would be directly replaced by your new unit.
