Hi guys I know this might be an obvious question to some but can I replace my ducillier distributor for a lucas type? The car in question is a 1979 series 2 1500cc. The reason I ask is my dads Allegro had a lucas unit and it was very easy to do the points etc, not to sure about the ducillier Thanks Kev |

Hi- others probably know better, but it should fit fine as long as you change the whole thing- I don't know if you need to change the drive gear or not though. Leyland just used the Ducellier during periods when Lucas was on strike. Thats why there are so many cars with ducelliers.
Best of all, you can even fit an electronic ignition unit to the lucas distributor, and they're much more reliable- I've had cars with both, and hate the french contraption.
If you're looking for a lucas, you'll need a 45D. check simonbbc.com They have electronic lucas dizzies for about £60. |

| The distributor drive dogs are the same so they are interchangeable, the only difference may be in the bracket which secures the body to the engine. The Lucas type has a clamp plate which clamps to the body & bolts to the engine whereas the Ducellier type has a fork which bolts to the engine & secures the body in place, so when you fit the Lucas distributor you'll need a clamp plate too, cheers, Laurence. |
