Hi all-
Just thought I'd share my troubleshooting with you in case anyone has the same problem.
Over the last couple of weeks, I kept blowing the number 2 fuse- which controls the side lights, number plate lights, and dash lights.
A couple of nights ago, I started it up to drive home in the dark from Eastbourne, and the lights wouldn't come on- only the headlights. Brake lights, and the indicators worked well. Very annoying, as everyone behind me was flashing their lights at me thinking that I was driving without my headlights on!!!
I thought, maybe the switch was bad or a loose connection to the fuseboard? No, everything looked ok. The fuse was ok too, although it had blown a couple of times in the past. Then I remembered that the front sidelight never worked. I took it apart, and the whole unit had melted, with rust everywhere! It was shorting out the whole circuit. I disconnected the light, and everything started working again.
So, check all of the lights first when you have a mystery electrical fault before considering switches or wiring.
Cheers,
