Hi All,
Just the one for me, EYC 548T a 1978 1300 Super 4-door saloon in Inca Yellow, lovingly known the Banana Machine.
I'm only its thrird owner and it comes with a full history file, including bills of sale, reciepts and all the Supercover paraphenalia. Its first owner, Mrs Gerda Woodward of Gloucester, went mad with the Unipart accessories catalogue and ordered it with radio, mudflaps, front and rear mats, drivers window draught excluder and fog lights front and rear (although the fronts aren't on the car at the moment). All these add-ons nearly pushed the price she paid for the car, which was supplied by the Metropole Garage in Minehead, up towards 1750 HL territory
It keeps company with UHJ 779S, a 1977 MG Midget 1500 in the first stages of restoration. |

Hi all
Two to report, first of all a now defunct 1975 Sport TC HJT 154N, stuck in the drive and rusted beyond repair - WAAHHH - and my project car, the Starwars Kid SWK 998W 998cc Series3 L ,body now fully restored after two years and about to be resprayed in Golden Yellow from boring old Nautilus, Series 1 exterior chrome lights etc ( I DETEST plastic sill covers, thats why I`ve spent two years fixing the rust). Seats changed for Metro ones on custom subframes currently being re-covered in yellow/black leatherette. Sparco sport steering wheel, 7Jx15 Foxpro alloys on 195/50R15 tyres (yes they do fit without fouling the inner wings!). To be fitted on rebuild, remote central locking w/ cat 1 alarm system, DVD screens in front headrests, Pioneer sub in boot, Infinity 6X9 in rear shelf, 16cm in front doors. Also will have an Xbox in the boot next to the DVD player. I have all the electronics ready to go and hope to be showing the car next season - well, I ain`t seriously going to drive it am I.. pics available of the project so far if anyone`s interested. |

Some pics here;

I did get the pics onto a post but they became unavailable after a few minutes, must have been blocked by PhotoBucket
Car should be in the paint shop next week then it`s fun time, after two years of welding and sourcing all the parts and electronics, boy will this be fun! BTW, I bought the car off EBay for £57 and drove it home from Coventry to Lancashire. It has a genuine mileage of 30k certified by all the old MOTs, engine sweet as a nut! |

Yes, one of the advantages of being a self employed mechanic with a few screws loose and a spare ramp ! My original plan was to drive it home, fix it and drive it. I can`t remember when I decided to go mad and customise it, I do know right from the start the Series 3 bits had to go. I have a massive collection of Series 1 and two bits built up over the last twelve years, but somewhere down the line the desire to build a " special " Allegro crept in - I`ve owned many original cars over the years, the last being a mint 1979 1500 estate in gold, I sold it recently to fund more work on this one.
I finished the exhaust mod today, SWK now has a 1984 Metro front pipe assembly, straight through to the back box, next bit is the big bore rear silencer, atm I`ve left the original rear silencer in place but it`s way too noisy without the middle box, hope the big bore sorts the problem out. Once the car is back together I`m going up to Burnley to have a PowerFlow custom stainless system made using my efforts as a template, the guy up there is a genius in sport exhaust systems and very reasonable pricewise
I`ll keep you posted

All these bodywork & exhaust mods... are you really planning to stick with a standard 998cc engine?
We did something similar - well I say similar, but actually it was completely different - with Percy, our 998cc series 3. The interior was dreadful so we ended up putting in a nice black one out of a scrapped car, and we've added things like a rev counter, rear seatbelts, speakers, sports steering wheel etc as they've come up, on the grounds that since the car wasn't going to be original it might as well be well equipped. |

No,I`m looking for a donor 1275 engine, our local engineering firm`s boss is THE man at 1380cc "A" series engines. New motor is going to cost about £500
to rebuild / mod so it will have to be a project for the winter so I can fit it next year. He bores em out to 1380cc, high lift cam, bigger valves and mods . polishes the ports and skims the head down to the max to get the compression up high as he dares. End result is about 95 BHP. Interesting thing he told me though was to forget twin carbs, waste of money he reckons a single 13/4" SU is the best carb for his engines. |

Only the one for me, but then again, I don't think I could own another one, it wouldn't be the same as Charlie.
Charlie is a 1982 Nautilus Blue, X reg, savannah interior (HLS style). He even has his own song, I'm listening to it while writing this. It's lines are so apt for Charlie, it's "I'm Still Standing" by Elton John. The lines I think are apt, are: "Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid". and "I'm still standing after all this time". It's a really upbeat song, and makes me smile every time I hear it. I know some might think it's sad that my car has his own song, but for people who know me, they know that Charlie and me are inseperable, so I may be mad, but I DON'T CARE, lol!!!
Hope to see you lot next August at the Peterborough rally. If people can't remember who Charlie is, he was the Series 3 on main display at this year's Peterborough show, my proudest moment, I never dreamt my car would be good enough to go on the main display!!!! I was proved wrong. You could have knocked me over with a feather!!!
Long live the allegros, and all their proud, if slightly insane, owners!! _________________ Owner of Charlie, 1982 Nautilus Blue Series 3, HL. AWARD WINNING, and as seen on TV (East Midlands Today news 3rd Sept) |

Update on SWK 998W:
Aftrr running out of time, money and energy, SWK is now back in the garage. A donor 1275cc engine has been found and the car is once again booked in for the golden yellow respray. The new black and yellow upholstery material has arrived from Germay and has been delivered to the upholstery guy who is now working on the re-covering of the Metro seats. I also got two embroidered badges from Ebay to be stiched into the front seat uprights with the logo "British Leyland Special Tuning Abingdon" with the crossed chequered flags. I`ve also had four " Limited Edition" decals made, I`m trying to get some Allegro decals made in the original format from the series one script to match the more modern look of the bodywork. After seeing the yellow estate that recently sold on Ebay I`ve bought a VP dash to customise by making a new ply insert and covering it in the yellow leatherette to match the seats.
All in all, things are storming ahead at last and I hope to have the car back together early April in time for some shows
Cheers all
