Hi to all newer members out there.

If you are unsure about how to enquire about spares/place an order read on as I have had several sarcastic/flippant e-mails recently about the service I provide.

You can either send me a spares enquiry form or e-mail me with your query. E-mail is the preferred communication tool.

You will receive a reply to your e-mail or letter any time in the next two weeks. Unfortunately, I don't deal with spares on a daily basis, but try to get round to it each week, usually at the weekends.

Please be patient.

Hi Chris M, you'll be lucky to get spare parts within 3 months, it took me longer than that to get suspension bushes. It may be better for you to seek parts elsewhere or attend a 'Spares Day', they are held every 6 months & you can then stock-up on bits which you may need in a hurry & which may be difficult to obtain elsewhere. I'm collecting details & making lists of spares so it makes life easier for me when I have to have certain parts immediately. Going to a 'Spares Day' though is a good day/weekend out & gives you the oppurtunity to meet other Allegro owners & have a chat & cup of coffee.
I have a 'donor' VP shell which I'm gradually taking bits from, I don't know excactly what the floorpan is like though when I bought the car it required a weeks worth of welding to pass an MOT. I you're interested, let me know & I'll have another look & tell you.
If you need engine/gearbox parts, it may be worthwhile contacting a Maxi owners club or specialist as the VP engine is derived from the Maxi. cheers, Laurence.

I'd just like to thank Laurence for the positive input he has shown in his last post.

I am self employed, work long hours and seldom work close to home. In the last 3 months I have not had any time off of work, and seldom get in from work until 7pm at night. This only leaves me weekends to attend to anything other than work.

The Spares Unit is located 20 miles from my home.

Due to my personal circumstances, I have been unable to attend to Spares Enquiries as frequently as I would like to and members expect me to. I initially took on the Spares 4 years ago when I was neither self employed nor living so far away from the Spares Unit. I would also add that I only undertook the position on a temporary 6 month basis til someone else could take on the job. I can only apologise for the apparently dreadful service I provide.

In view of the fact that others obviously believe that they can do the job better, I shall look forward to meeting them at the next AGM when I shall be giving a years notice giving others the opportunity to take on the Spares Service asap.

I feel the clubs spares resource is a very valuable thing to have for members and no doubt helps keeps cars on the road. It is alos a useful source of infomation.

It is however not a profit making bussiness as say "rimmer bros" and doesn't have paid staff - it therefore can never match the service of such organisations, nor does it claim to do so.

I feel it would be beneficial to all if we all considered the amount of effort and time running the service must take up . We're all very busy and i think george or whoever steps in too run the spares deserves a huge thanks and much respect for doing so , even if the service at times appears a little slow.

If no-one did we wouldn't have a spares service at all or spares days either come to that.

Seconded. I have enough trouble fitting in everything that needs doing for Regalia, and that's only a tiny, tiny fraction of the work involved in running Spares. At the end of the day we are all volunteers and ultimately work, family and getting enough sleep to stay alive all have to come first. We've all come to appreciate having a Spares Controller with a built-in Allegro encyclopaedia in his head and a keen eye for an autojumble or ebay bargain for the club. Stick around Chris M, the service is worth waiting for!

I note the comments made
and understand the points
made. However, perhaps the
club should not have been
in such a hurry to snatch
the spares service away
from the Midlands area,
where Nick & Co; were able
to provide a prompt service
within the delivery times
stated in Cat (upto 3 weeks)
I heard Nick & rest of group
resigned in protest as I
know a lot of effort had
been put into the spares
service near Derby, but
the london area members
seemed to want it on their
doorstep! Now I hear they
are desperate for
someone to take over as
George too busy to continue.
(I koow as I too have been
waiting since April when
order form sent in &
confirmed in June for
delivery when?)
Okay if rebuilding a car
perhaps but no use to
anyone trying to keep their
car running! I suggest club
employ (4 hours a week) a
person to assist with
orders, packing etc...
to take the strain off
spares controller.

STEPHEN I SUGGEST YOU GET ALL YOUR FACTS RIGHT

The spares were taken away because it was providing a crap service not because the London area wanted it
The year before George took it over the spares income was approx £500 & last year the spares income was just under £5000 so a slight diference. There were also a whole years worth of letters unopened when he took it over. also the volume of stock has increased so its not just selling the items its buying aswell.

The Derby lot were also given chances to sort the service out i remember the Chairman sitting with Nick at one of the BL/BMC shows

George also offered to do the paperwork for them so all they had to do was to send stock out,but communication broke down that end even though the club brought them a new computer.

The Chairman then wanted this sorted out so it was a choice sell the stock or move it, it was decided that it should be moved George offered to find storage for a tempary time of 6 months. 5 years down the line he is still doing it.( the longest serving spares controller)but now due to work he can no longer provide a good service & thats why he is giving it up.

ARE YOU OFFERING TO TAKE OVER !!!

I have to agree with Roger, that Stephen's facts seem slightly adrift from what I remember about the twilight days of the Midlands-based Spares Service.

Not naming any names or referring to any individuals in particular, what went on caused serious inconvenience and disruption to the club at the time, and nobody resigned over it: the Committee had to take control of the situation and move the operation to somebody prepared to take it on board.

Premises and people are actively being sought at the moment, so that the spares can be re-located in time for George's intended 'retirement' next year...............and if anybody is prepared to offer some constructive help towards making this happen, the Chairman and Committee would be pleased to hear from them
