Hi All,

I have recently joined the club and been looking for an allegro, I have been offered a X reg series 3 1.0 base model 4 door, the body is overall very good, but will need a respray due to minor damage and a passenger side front wing and front door due to rust ( this is the only place I could find any) the interior is excellent showing no damage or signs of use, mechanically the car hasn't been used for 6 years, the engine is seized solid so will need a rebuild/replacement and the rest would need going through, has anyone got a rough idea of what to offer?? the guy selling it wants offers, should I buy this one or keep looking for a roadworthy one??

Regards all

David

Welcome to the club and to the forum, David.

Unless you are a skilled welder yourself, I would recommend looking for the best bodyshell you can find. It sounds like the one you have been offered may well fit the bill. Replacement doors are reasonably easy to get hold of and the club has some wing repair sections available.

If you are happy to stick with a 1.0 engine, they are still fairly affordable (compared with a 1275) and parts are readily available if you decide to rebuild the existing one. (It may un-seize if you pour some diesel down the cylinders and leave it to soak for a week or two Wink )

I would try an offer in the region of £300 (I think you would be unlikely to get it for less, but it could be worth trying?) and see how you get on.

I haven't seen a roadworthy project for much less than £1000 in the last year or so.
