Our project S1 1100 is being restored on a shoestring. As it's been off the road for 20+ years, the clutch hydraulics are shot. To this end, I'm sourcing replacement parts that may not be original, but will do the job effectively.
I have sourced a replacement master cylinder and will be using a Mini slave with matching hose. My problem is that the only pipe unions available for these components won't allow the use of the original size 1/4" hard pipe-I will have to use 3/16" brake pipe size.
I'm aware that the Mini used 3/16" as standard. Does anyone know why the Allegro used larger bore, and whether it's likely to cause an issue if I use the smaller pipe?
Thanks.

I'm going to post an update to this, even though it seems like there is never anyone on this forum..... Rolling Eyes

Replaced the clutch hydraulics in their entirety. Not for concours fanatics, but the only modification needed was the hole in the flexy hose bracket enlarging a bit. I have fitted a Mini slave cylinder, mini hose, copper hard pipe (Standard 3/16" brake pipe size) and a Land Rover Defender brake master cylinder.

It all works perfectly, and cost approx. £35 for all new components. Bit of a bargain I think! Very Happy

And I'm glad I did Very Happy

My master cylinder is definitely leaking and the slave doesn't look too healthy either so I think I will be doing the same thing.
But, I just wanted to check...

The slave cylinder seems to be the same for all our cars, is this correct?

What is the difference between the Allegro slave cylinder and the mini/Maxi/etc. units? Is it just the connection?

Are there other alternative master cylinders apart from the Landrover unit? MGB ??

Thanks,
Graham

The slaves are the same across the Allegro range (All apart from late cars.)
The difference in the mini one is purely the pipe thread size.

I settled on the LR master as the nearest size but I'm sure others would fit-I did consider the MGB one.

Hi Garry, this has been done a few times now and John's car is still using the landrover set up. It seems reliable and an appropriate modification.
If you need further details send me an email, spares@allegroclubint.org.uk
Cheers,
Graham
