In today's Budget, it was announced that 'historic' vehicle excise duty (or free road tax as most of us refer to it) is to be on a rolling 40-year basis from now on.
So, as has already been well-publicised, cars built in 1973 will be getting the free rate from 1st April this year. Then from next year, 1974-built cars will qualify.
Let's just hope that if a different party wins the 2015 General Election, they don't immediately snuff it out, like Gordon Brown did in 1997. |

Sadly I will be 91 when my Vauxhall Agila also becomes eligible in 2049  |
