Can anyone advise where is the best place to buy an exhaust back box, is it the club spares service or / and are there any other recommended places for Allegro parts?
Thanks. _________________ Phil

Hi,
I got mine on Ebay. NOS exhaust parts for some reason don't last long though, they rust quick.
Of course the club sell stainless whole systems, which one day I will invest in.
Thanks Dave |

I would not even consider one from ebay unless there is a guarantee with it - if it has been stored incorrectly it will be rusty inside. As Dave says they don't last very long. On the other hand, they are often very cheap.
Stainless is the one to go for as they last 'for ever'. _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!

| If the failed back box is keeping your car off the road a temporary solution is to replace with a length of straight pipe; you'll be surprised how little difference it makes to the noise emitted. I know of a few cars where this temporary solution has become somewhat less than temporary! |

Thanks for the replies. Where is the best place to get a stainless steel one? _________________ Phil

Hi all, just an update on this, my mechanic tells me that my exhaust is in one section so I need a full exhaust, not just a back box.
I've been quoted £252 for a full stainless steel exhaust, fitted. Does this sound reasonable? The guy makes the exhaust himself, I understand. _________________ Phil

£252 sounds about right to me.
A company called PowerFlow custom made a stainless system for my 1300 Allegro several years ago, I think it cost around £160 then.
It may be worth getting a quote from them to see how it compares. |
