So, after renewing the slave cylinder shes still slipping so time for a new clutch i thought.
Take the clutch cover off to find that its had a clutch recently fitted but everywheres covered in oil, bell housing the lot.
So now im thinking oil crank seal? Once i seen the oil covering everything i never bothered taking the clutch out as it was a friends ramp i was using and he needs it for his business so time was an essence
Is there anything else that could be causing the oil to get on the clutch?

Where can i buy a new seal from? Im still waiting for parts from the club which i ordered a month ago so will look elsewhere for the time being,i appreciate its a voluntary roll so i wont start ranting and raving it will turn up eventually.A part number would be helpful if possible, E series 1500

Dave

Dave,

With respect it may not be the oil seal causing the problem. Check the condition of the primary gear bushes and the primary gear end float. Check the crankcase breather system. Also oil can enter the clutch housing via the studs and/or bolts that hold it in place, or the end case can be porous. Don't overfill with oil, and keep it just above the minimum mark.

More info. available if you want advice.

Merv.

Thanks for the advice Merv I think I better ask my friend who's qualified to take a closer look once weve got her back on the ramps as my knowledge is quite limited beyond the clutch plate

I will get him to check all the things you mentioned and will keep you informed on the outcome Smile

When you check for possible problems regarding the oil apparent around the clutch/flywheel, it's a good idea to check for lift in the crankshaft main bearings.
With the clutch cover removed, using a pry-bar or similar placed between the periphery of the flywheel and the flywheel housing, check for movement/lift of the flywheel.
If there is any discernable lift, the crankshaft main bearings could be worn excessively, therefore, the engine will require an overhaul.

If there is no lift of the crankshaft, changing the oil seal etc will be an effective repair.

The E series oil seal is common to A series 13H2934 & the uprated 13H2934MS seal from minispares.com 01707 607700
The breather CHM36 is availible from rimmer bros 01522 568000 or call AGM Spares 01526 398377 for Maxi E series parts.

I think you may be mistaken there Laurence. The E-series oil seal part number is listed as 42H 118. 13H 2934 is only listed for the A series engines.

Yes Mike, you're right about the differing numbers, but if you google 42H118 it does cross-reference to 13H2934 & MiniSpares produce a modified seal 13H2934MS which overcomes some of the problems inherent with the original.

Sorry to disappoint, Laurence, but the E-series seal is a much larger diameter than the A-series item.

That's the thing to remember about the internet: it disseminates misinformation as well as information.
