After the request for information about a brown 1500 Allegro Super UME 200S, Paul was good enough to put into the last Quartic. (nothing heard yet), I have had another enquiry.

This gentleman says his father had a succession of Allegros, which each year were driven to Austria and "we never had trouble with any of them". He is looking for information on the following cars:

OEU 8M in Harvest Gold
HFO 337N in Blaze
PCJ 808R in Astral Blue
XCJ 66T in Vermillion
FVJ 595W in Oyster Metallic

All were 1500 Specials with the exception of the last which was a Mk. 3 HLS with twin headlights. All are on the DVLA site, but have not been taxed for many years.

The gentleman is going to send me an article and some pictures when he can, which may be of interest in a future Quartic?

Do let me know if any of these cars are still with us, as he will be 'over the moon' if any of them are out there.

Mervyn Irvine.

Hia mate
I checked the registrations in the Auto-trader free number plate thingy, to see if its taxed and MOTed, or been written off etc, and according to that. None of them are still on the road……

…..BUT

… I checked it for my estate, and apparently, its been scraped, and also for my VP saloon, and according to that its still MOTed & taxed. When its actually on a sorn, in a garage! Lol Confused

… so I’ve not really been any help to be honest!

But I’m very surprised that the first number plates not been sold onto another car, as that sounds a very desirable number, been so low.

I've just tried the DVLA with cars that I know to have been scrapped, and they still show 'unlicensed', so there's a good chance they might have already gone unfortunately.

If the DVLA computer shows "Unlicensed" it can mean one of three things:

1) The vehicle still exists because its tax expired and it was laid-up before the introduction of SORN. It is still laid-up and it has not been re-licensed since.

2) The vehicles tax expired and it was laid-up before the introduction of SORN. It has since been scrapped.

3) If the vehicle was taxed at any point after the introduction of SORN unlicensed effectively means its gone. The date of liability tells you when.

If something doesn't register at all, it doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't exist.

Not that I keep a check on all my old cars or anything Wink

If none of these have been used since the early '90s the chances are slim unless any of them have been sitting in someone's barn for 15 years.

There is one more possibility for 'unlicensed' and that is where a change of ownership was notified using the 'trade' section of the V5, and the car has not been registered to another owner since.

If a 'no record found' screen comes up, it will mean that either:

The registration number has now been transferred to another car that is not an Austin

The car had been untaxed for over 2 years in October 1982 when DVLA 'cleansed' its records, and the record was deleted from the system

The car has very recently been scrapped and a Certificate of Destruction issued.

Hope that helps!
