I suppose most of you have seen the rather lovely citron yellow car on ebay being sold by "the doctor"?
Hes the same seller who supplied colin taylors 1500hl estate which i know colin is very pleased with.

I have had a good look at the pictures and am pretty sure i can see filler in the drivers side front wing - front lower corner looks a little suspect to me!

Coilns estate looked 100% mint , as new on this guys listing and it is a fantastic car in very good condition - however the camera does tend to flatter cars on ebay and his car up close in the fleah isn't quite as good as the photos suggested. Everything in the ad however was true - the guy was very honest in his listing - but also very clever , painting a picture etc.

I would stress to anyone to go and have a look first - yes it is superb but before you go and bid thousands remember to read between the lines -"retains the majority of its factory paint" think about it!! Ask yourself exactly what all the flowerey words actually mean - its a very very well crafted listing .

I don't wish to be negative , i just would hate someone to spend their hard-earned cash on a car possibily not as good as they expected.!!

I quite agree with Andy.

And no matter what the listing says about your bid being final, unconditional, enforceable, etc, if you do bid blind and the car is not as described when you go to see it, you have the right to walk away. The worst you will get is one negative feedback and then you can leave him negative in return, which will damage his reputation as a car dealer when you mention 'Allegro was not as described'.

Paint repairs due to minor parking dings would be acceptable, but any evidence of rust repair would be more than adequate grounds for rejection.....

Talking of the citron yellow car being sold on ebay by the Doctor, he sold a vermillion dolomite 1300 on ebay not long back. Put the following item number 200203517644 in the ebay search box and get the item up. When you've done that, click on the following link.

http://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4011&p=35749&hilit=dolly+1300#p35749

I would be interested to hear your views on this.

VERY intresting.
Firstly I've no problem with people making money .

However notice the clever wording in the ad (very similar to said allegro ad) and then look at the before photos - i'm sure its rust on the nearside rear arch! - magically gone in the ebay ad. Note wording - no paint rectification in the hands of original owner - thgats right because the seller has tarted it up so it should read "recently spivved up".

Study both the ebay ad and the triumph forum ad and you've a masterclass in selling an old car and making a considerable profit!!

This doctor is very clever ! But Can you trust a doctor????? I'm not sure

I have to conclude the best place to find a decent car is through the owners club - preferbly before the doctor operates on them!!
Both my more recent allegro purchases have been throu the club and they've been great value and decent cars too.

Now that IS interesting!!

Got to eBay, and have a look at this item: 200180416462

It's a car "The Doctor" had for sale in December. It's another carfully crafted ad, repetetive 'this car is original', only minor paint recification, all panels "seem" original etc etc.

Unfortunately, the pictrues don't seem to be on the old listing, but I remember they showed the car in a very flattering light, with none of the "slightly" rusty areas described.

I was quite interested in this (but def not at £8K!!), so I asked for more pictures. Well, the description was honest enough, but I wasn't intersted when I saw the new pics - the rust was as described, but may well have had more horrors below the bubbles, and it certainly would've taken more than the £200 quoted to fix! Some of the pics not on the ad showed the car with the interior out, so The Doctor may have done some other work not described.

It didn't sell for the £8K he wanted, so he relisted on a classified ad. Not sure what happened to it in the end as it doesn't appear in his feedback.....

Hi Guys,
This car really is very nice but i totally agree with everyone here,i know if i paid a fortune for this car then on closer inspection found some things that were not described i certainly wouldnt be a happy bunny!!!
Is it me but in the pictures of this car it looks a like there are some different shades of paint, look at the sill to the doors and front wing and sills compared to the doors are a different shade
Sometimes i would rather buy a slightly more honest car with no hidden horrors a little bit of rust here and there means you know exactly what is happening under that shiney paint
I would love to know what his reserve is though !!
what do you reckon?
Richie g Very Happy

Hmm......looks like the Dolomite was quite a shed before it got 'doctored!'

It's amazing what some sellers will try to get away with. I went with a friend today to collect a car he had purchased on eBay. Ummm......let's just say that the seller had photographed the best side of the car: a few bubbles and a scrape on the wheelarch.

Unfortunately, the driver's side had a large chunk of one door bottom missing, the driver's wing was rusted around the arch and was detaching itself from the front panel. My friend very nearly walked away, but after coolly ignoring the seller's protests about winning bids being a contract etc, he negotiated a reduction of around 25% on his winning bid.

Just as well, really, because the rear end of the exhaust fell apart on the way home, although we both heard the seller say something about a recent new exhaust...........

This whole thing has got me thinking. My sister-in-law has asked me to help her sell her MG Metro Turbo. I could follow the Doctor's example and state that it has received no body or paint rectification through her 15 years of ownership, which it hasn't. That doesn't however, alter the fact that it has clearly been reshelled prior to that, as it doesn't have a sunroof (standard fit on the Mk2 Turbo) and the body number dates the shell at approx 1987 (her car was registered late '85.........) But would it be our responsibility to tell any potential buyer that??????!!!!

Yep, the Series 2 I recently bought from Ebay was a similar story, great pics of the shiny bonnet etc. and was described as a great car that had been stuck in a garage for 4 years, battery flat and passenger front window smashed but that was it. When I went to get the car it had flat tyres, siezed brakes Hydro collapsed on the nearside and corrosion right up the offside rear inner arch seam, front panel like a patchwork quilt. Luckily for the seller I only wanted a donor 1275 engine / geabox for reconditioning and it was only £106 so I didn`t walk away. It seems the seller hadn`t actualy lied but hadn`t told the entire story either. I`m amazed that the "Doctor" is getting away with this, mind you, it`s not possible to leave more feedback on Ebay 6 months down the line when the truth reveals itself, is it....

It made £2052 then, excellent profit for the dealer, I bet he is laughing all the way to the bank. Despite what has been said about the car, I still liked it.
