Russell,
Your coils should be non-ballasted with a primary resistance of 3 to 3.4 ohms. If you have an ohm-meter I would check the primary resistance of your existing coil, assuming it is the original, to be 100% sure. A sports coil is unnecessary and will reduce the contact breaker life. The 'old' Lucas number was LA12
Far be it for me to offer advice, but I would steer clear of e-bay for such an item, as so much of the stuff appears to be rubbish or faulty. Many garages will not fit parts that customers have purchased from such a source, as it usually ends in tears.
You would be better to go to a motor factor or even Halfords, but don't expect staff at the latter to even know what an Allegro is!

Thanks Merv, really appreciate that. totally agree about buying parts from a proper motor factors, ill be going to the good one up the town. Ill just get the normal coil then, and ill try to find a lucas one Thanks for confirming that it shouldnt be balasted. Appreciate your help as ever Merv, hows things with you? |

Off to a car show at Knebworth with the North Thames group of the Allegro Club tomorrow, and then to another show on Monday. Busy but enjoyable time!
