|
|
After the apparent success of the 1st Annual Midsummer Treasure Hunt last year I have today been out surveying the route for the 2nd one scheduled to take place on Sunday 28th June.
Currently planned to begin in the village of Catthorpe, just off the A5 and home of the notorious M1/M6/A14 Catthorpe Junction it will be spread between parts of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, covering somewhere around 26 -30 miles.
I know its still a fair few weeks off but can you indicate if you wish to take part and how many are likely to be in your car so I can make arrangements accordingly.
One thing I did overlook last time was a prize fund, we gave each group a small prize which we had to cover ourselves, this time we just need £5 per car, payable on the day. |

But less good for the sneaky overtaking manoeuvers and handbrake turns that characterised last year's Treasure Hunt. Or was that just in our car? |

Now, Jenny, you are putting ideas in my head!
But don't worry, my weapon of choice for out-manoeuvring you all will probably not be ready for that date! |

It is now less than 4 weeks until the 2nd Annual Treasure Hunt and today I went out and did the final practice run, making sure all the clues, roadsigns and suchlike were in place.
Barring unforseen problems such as road closures, landslips or major rural terrorism attacks all looks set! If the weather stays as today it will be a scorcher.
As with last years run there is a tea and pee stop half way, however I have discovered a venue that will have something on the ground and something in the air to keep everyone entertained!!! Hmmm, sounds intriguing, but of course I cant give anymore clues, the only way your going to find out is to come along.
We will be meeting at the Manor Farm Shop and TeaRoom, Catthorpe, Leicestershire (look out for the clock tower). For most of you the A5 will be your best approach, it is only a mile off it, the really brave ones can approach from Catthorpe M1/M6/A14 interchange( they'll be the ones sitting in their cars simply staring ahead and twitching!)
I am aiming for a 10.30 start which may seem early but there is a lot to see and do at the T+P stop, and at the end of the run there are many places to walk, and other forms of transport to ride in so you may appreciate the early start.
So far I have few definites but we are always looking for more teams so if you fancy a 27 mile run in some superb countryside with something for everyone add your name. |

Can I just remind those of you that are still undecided that the 2nd Annual Treasure Hunt is just 10 days away.
I'd like to say that entries are filling fast and I will have to beat any more away with a big stick, sadly that is not the case as so far I only have a handful of definites , therefore if you fancy a nice run out in some beautiful Leicestershire and Northamptonshire countryside seeing places you never knew existed then this is certainly the event for you.
Use of (even owning) an Allegro is not compulsary, you will be welcome in any vehicle, all I ask is you confirm via this link by Friday 26th to give me time to print out enough answer sheets and get a stock of goodies as prizes (for which I am requesting a £5 pay on the day charge per car, hope that is OK?)
I will be at Trentham this Sunday too so you anyone going along can book in with me there |

Well today is the 26th, and I just have 3 teams for the Treasure hunt on Sunday 28th. Those are: Paul and Teresa, Jenny and Craig, and Peter who is returning Brian the VP from the Home for Poorly Allegros and teaming with Stephen; a big thank you to them.
If you would like to join us there is still time but I do need to know certainly by tomorrow AM so I can print off enough answer sheets and get enough prizes.
As an incentive I am dropping the £5 charge per team, so either reply here or call me on 07709935160 by noon Saturday.
Thank you.

Well, thanks to Chris for organising a first-class event: not only did everybody except Brian have a great time, but we ended up getting a great lunch at the mid-way stopping point as well!
I'll leave it to Steve or Chris to explain Brian's ills...... |

Thanks for the compliments Paul, I have to agree that this was the best Treasure Hunt so far, it has certainly set a high bench mark for the next one!
We had really good run, through spectacular scenery in glorious sunshine, lunch was an exceptional £5 roast at the Soaring Centre Gliding Club, Husbands Bosworth where purely by coincidence there was a classic car show on and we became part of the exhibition (last sunday of every month, all year except July)
From there we explored a villlage street on foot for clues, then back in the cars across more open country. At one stage we drove across a cricket pitch, the crease on one side of the road and the pavillion and spectators the other and had to wait while they finished an over before being waved through! A more English rural scene would be hard to find.
Sadly just before the end of the run at the spectacular Foxton Locks, a staircase of 11 locks with small village at the bottom Brian the VP returned to form, spewing petrol out one carb and running like a bag of nails. Fortunately we had enough experts and tools on hand to provide a repair of sorts and it got me back home with no further incidents, (assuming you dont ask about the out of track front wheels and the involuntary change of direction on wet corners during the rainstorm heading home into Coventry!!!)
Plans are afoot for the 3rd Treasure Hunt so be sure to keep the last Sunday of June 2010 spare. |
