|
|
Hi all
Several people have done this. Can it be simply wired in using similar wire or does it need a relay or anything like that added in? I was just going to make an additional loom, which plugs into the existing rear wiring harness with connectors to plug the existing RH foglamp into and then a run of wire to the other side of the car with connectors to plug the additional LH foglamp into.
As far as I can see, a RH foglamp can be used on the LH if the bracket is bent to get the lamp pointing straight back rather than at an angle.
(Thankfully I hadn't got round to adding it before I got run into, saving another item from being replaced!) _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |

Colin
You won`t really need an extra relay or that kind of stuff, the foglamp bulb is 21w which is under 2 amps and won`t overload the circuit really - just wire into the existing lamp.
Cheers

Thanks for that Alan - I'll make up the extra loom and link up the lamp once my back end is rebuilt. _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |

Loom is made. I got some of the correct wiring connectors from www.autosparks.co.uk (tad pricey though). Both foglamps plug into the extension loom which plugs into the existing foglamp connectors in the body wiring harness.
To get a RH foglamp to fit on the LH side of the car the bracket has to be cut to make the main part symmetrical, so that it does not foul the bumper bracket, (cut the left side of the foglamp bracket to match the right side) and then it has to be bent to make sure that the lamp faces straight back rather than off to the left. _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |

Yes, I am a bit slow at getting around to things....
I was waiting to refurbish the inside of the bumper before fitting the lamps. I de-rusted, anti-rusted, painted and under-sealed the brackets, fitted new bulbs and added much silicon sealant around the lamps (behind the gasket, in front of the gasket, in the gap between the lenses and body and around the wiring entry point - leaving a drain gap at the bottom middle between the body and lens). This should stop water getting in and corroding the inside of the bulb holder as I have seen on a few lamps.
I now just need to wire up the front foglamps for working foglamps all round. _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |

Hi Colin, when you fit & wire-up the front foglamps you will need a relay(30A 4pin)+ a relay plug, an inline fuse (15A), cable/wire (17A single) to take a feed from the battery, through the fuse to the relay plug & then from the relay plug to the lamps. You will also need cable (5A) to go from the car fuse box, then to a switch on the dashboard & then to the relay so when you switch on the relay it sends a the feed from the battery to the lights.
If you get a catalogue from Car Builder Solutions www.carbuildersolutions.co.uk you will find all the bits you need in there (they're quite cheap too!) or call 01580 891309, cheers, Laurence. |

Cheers for the info - that will be very useful if I have to wire them from scratch. At the moment I'm trying to get hold of the factory wiring bits as it will be easier. I think that a lot of wiring is already in place and just needs the extra looms at both ends plus the relay and fuse (I have a switch). _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |
