Hi Everyone ,
I just thought i would send a quick post because at the B.L. day in peterborough i was very lucky that 2 professional photographers from classic car mags wanted to photograph my Allegro Equipe
Well i got a cd/dvd of the photos he took with a site address which is
www.magiccarpics.com
Well i went on this site to see what cars he had on this site and i recognised a few photos of cars that i know of,there was Jenny and Craigs"percy",the rally car, paul and teresas gold 1.3 series 3,johnos series 1 in teal blue and a few others that i can't remember
Have a look if you get a spare minute, you might even see your car on there!
take care

Wow, you're right. £40 for a picture of Percy?! We could be sitting on a gold mine here... |

| Interesting, I wasn`t even there but SWK 998W is on the site too ! Looks like the pic was taken when I was leaving Tatton Park, there was a guy with a camera on the side of the road as we were leaving - so what percentage of the 40 squid do we get, then.. |

Hi All,
Alan's right about the photo having been taken on the way into Tatton and they snapped my car and Johno's too.
Now I'm all for publicising the car and the club, and was chuffed for Richie when they wanted to snap his Equipe at BL day. However, I'm not too impressed at my car being photographed for commercial purposes (and someone elses profit) without even having the courtesy to ask my permission (which incidentally I'd have been happy to give). If a visitor to the show wants to take a picture as a momento, that's fine and dandy. If a commercial photographer wants to take a picture for sale they should ask for what is known as 'courtesy clearance' under the various copyright acts. For example, the photographer from the Birmingham Mail made it clear that this was the case at the 35th Anniversary National Event at the Patrick Collection.
Not sure how I feel about all this, as if I'd been asked I'd have been delighted. Now I'm a bit annoyed instead.

We thought the same, but is there actually anything we can do about it? Craig suggested that because we were in a public place they're not doing anything wrong?
Incidentally Richard Dredge (the photographer - didn't he also write for Practical Classics a while back?) must have been doing this at a lot of shows for a while, because Percy is on there despite not going to BL Day this year or Tatton Park ever. |

Hi Guys and girls
Oh buggar!, i hope i haven't opened a can of worms here??
I didn't actually think about what people would think if there cars were on this site?
I hope i haven't upset anyone as i can totally understand where you are coming from,it maybe slightly different if he had disguised the number plates because the cars would just be a blue austin allegro or green allegro without an identity
sorry if i have opened a can of worms
take care

Dont worry Richie, its not your fault!! In fact, THANKS for highlighting it!
One way forward would be for the committee to ask for a donation to the club?? That could cover use of pics of club cars commercially and benefit all members/owners. They can only say no at the end of the day!
Nice to see so many Allegros at BL Day and TWO Equipes!! Hopefully mine will make it 3 next year
Heard many nice comments from passers by about the Allegro turnout too. Well done everybody! |

Hi Richie,
No problem at all for bringing it up,I'm glad you did
As I said, I've actually no problem with my car being used, but just feel it would have been polite if I'd been asked first.
I hadn't given any thought to the reg. number issue. What are the risks?
Cheers all! |

Perhaps Craig (wearing his Secretary's hat) could place it on the agenda for discussion at the next Committee meeting: I think it is only fair to our members that a proper discussion is held.............. _________________ But you'd better be quick. Because the Allegro Equipe is a Limited Edition that's going to move like its looks! Vroom, Vroom! |

I take the point it would have been nice to have been asked. Common decency dictates he should have done so. However lets remember the clubs aims and pictures of the allegro must surely be a good thing. The worst thing that could happen is that the allegro gets forgotten!
If your cars is featured why not take it as a complement? besides if your going to a "show" then its going to get seen and possibily photograpthed is it not? If you didn't want it photographed maybe you shouldn't "show" it?
At the end of the day a car show is a public display and photos will get taken. I do still think it would have been polite for the owners to have been asked first before they were offered for sale. Still at £40 i bet he doesn't sell many! _________________ "If you think an allegro is intresting you are criminally insane" Said the man in the 12mpg Range Rover sport as it depreciated another £100 in the time it took to write this! |

I don't see it as an issue. They're really just filling a gap in the market - it's a bit like those people at some of the shows who photograph every car going in and then try to sell you your car on a mug. Snappers are always being asked by classic car owners (or racers, if you photograph motorsport) for their pictures.
To the best of my knowledge they're entirely within their rights to do this, even if it might have been more professional had they asked owners of the cars if they had any objections first.
And as above, chances are they won't exactly be raking it in anyway when the costs of equipment and travelling to the shows are taken into account! |

Not sure I agree there Andy, if the car is being shown then fine, the show organisers can use the pictures, the press can use them. The your car on a mug is set up more for the owner of the car, but is I suppose a gray area. However a random photographer taking pictures of my car (clearly including my face) and selling the picture for £40 is a bit much, at least permission should be sought, and a % perhaps passed on. It's not really publicity, is it?
That said £40 for a picture of Percy? Even I wouldm't pay that. |

I take your point craig about your image ie face being included. I think that is wrong without permission being sought first. I do still however think its good publicity and am pleased he thought it worthy to photograph our allegros! _________________ "If you think an allegro is intresting you are criminally insane" Said the man in the 12mpg Range Rover sport as it depreciated another £100 in the time it took to write this! |
