I got my insurance renewal notice through today and was just a *tad* shocked to see that it had rocketed to six times as much as last years.

£630 Lancaster Insurance want, I paid £130 last year.

Who do you use and recommend?

Thanks,
Alex.

I think a lot of the 2cvers are with FJ (under 25), phone up have a chat with them, I think there might be an extra excess, but not £500 or anything!

Mine was 100pounds 20pence, unlimited mileage, 50quid excess, breakdown etc etc

But then I am old.

Blimey... and I went with Lancaster because they were half the price of the other quotes I got - shall have to consider switching to Footman James come renewal time! (I won't get enough back from cancelling my policy to make losing the year's NCB worthwhile.)

Is it worth trying to negotiate some kind of club discount with any of the insurance companies? Laughing I got my first policy with Lancaster when I owned a Mini, because they offered a substantial discount to MOC members.

I had a club discount with FJ. And that was before I was a member. I just said I was planning to join so they apply the discount, on the proviso that I send the membership number in 30/14? (can't remember) days.

Better and better... I'll definitely flag them for calling in a couple of months when renewals come up.

Postcode plays a big part in insurance. If you live in a high crime area the cost of the insurance will reflect that but if you have the benefit of maximum no claims discount that will knock a fair bit off. The answer is to live in a low crime area with full no claims discount, you can't go wrong. I suppose the hardest part is being young and starting from scratch but that is the only way to build up your no claims discount, thats if you don't crash that is. Crying or Very sad

I got a quote from Footman James last year when I was only 23 - it was about £500ish, but I hadn't had a full year's worth of being insured at that point.

Avoid Carole Nash like the plague - I've had APPALLINGLY CATACLYSMIC SERVICE form them. They deliberately mis-sold me a policy too, to gain my business! Shall be swapping come June.

Cheers for that one Chris, got an online quote for £183 with these guys which I thought was so-so, but much better than the rest - and then I got an email from a chap at Heritage saying he could do the policy for £112. He's going to get back to me on Tuesday, I hope there's no hidden extra costs.

Alex.

Fingers crossed Alex, good luck. you've obviously built up some no claims discount since you have been driving, accident free. Very Happy
