Seeing as its Allegro 35 this year I was wondering if we would have a "theme" for peterborough? At the Bromley show we had a theme of "year of the car" with age related artifacts ( space hoppers/70s kiddies bikes etc) in addition to owners dressed in various age related costume. We also had period music playing on the stand and it all seemed to go very well , it certinaly was good fun!!!

In years gone by we have had very imaginative ideas - mervyns A and E comes to mind - and being its the 35th this year i do think we should do something. Is Peterborough classed as a national event? or is it organised by a region? Anyone got any good ideas for a theme? I think caroline mentioned dressing up too in a previous post - whats the general consensus?

BL Day is classed as a national event for the club as it seems to attract members from far and wide spanning a number of the different area groups.

Based on the fact this year is a memorial for on the organisers I think we should def have a theme and the 'year of the car' was very well received at Bromley so I see no reason that this can't be replicated at Peterborough.

How does everyone feel about that or should be go with the 'Allegro 35' Style celebrations?

I think that as long as we stick to the main theme that this year is the Allegro's 35th (and owners of lesser Fords, oops, cars mustn't be allowed to forget it!) there's no reason why that shouldn't include 'The Year of the Car'.

If we try to keep all of the early cars near the front to emphasise the series 1/Allegro 35 message, the rest can be placed behind..............is that making sense??

I was thinking about replicating what Roger did at Bromley for the front of the stand just because Series One Cars are so thin on the ground (3 out of 32 cars last year)

Estate, Series 3, 2, 1 Display Series 1, 2, 3 Estate.

It looked really good!

What do you think??

I have Two Allegro 35 Laminates for the Windscreens. Can we get anymore?

Also I want as much bunting as possible! If Roger and Teresa could bring theirs that would be great and help make the stand look good

OK, here's the definitive answer!

We discussed BL Day at the Committee meeting on Saturday, and it was agreed that BL Day is to be treated as a 'National' event because of its significant presence on the events calendar. However, there will not be competitions for favourite cars, etc.

We will be running with the 'Allegro 35' + 'Year of the Car' themes and all of the regional events people are encouraged to talk to each other and work together to ensure yet another pleasant and successful BL Day with the considerable workload shared between as many as possible.

Our Events Co-ordinator Colin Taylor is the, um, co-ordinator for all of this and we will do all we can to keep him informed on what is being discussed here on the forum, as he is not currently a forum user (so don't send messages to 'Colin T' on here, because that's not Colin Taylor!).

Hope that clarifies everything!

Great stuff .... my understanding then is that we get hold of age related artifacts for the year of our cars ( at bromley this consisted of LPs and annuals , badges , age related hoovers! , space hoppers , and 70s childrens bikes , trim phone - the list is as long as your imagination).

And possibly dressing up in the era of your car ie , 70s or 80s - it was great fun and felt more like a birthday party celebration than a stuffy car show!

So be brave , check out ebay or the back of your wardrobe and go back in time..... stuckk for ideas? have a look at ashes to ashes for 80s themed outfits and life on mars for that 1973 look. It doesn't matter as you really can't get it "wrong" -

this year is the allegros 35th birthday so why not celebrate it in real style! - after all the allegro always was the stylish member of the BL stable during its production!!!!!!!!!
