Guys
Done some research into parts availability for the windscreen wiper/washer system whilst overhauling mine. Thought this information might be of some use in the future.
The wiper motor itself is the same as fitted to lots of BL cars, including later Mini.
The Washer motor is the same as MGB.
The drivers side wiper wheelbox is part no. 37H7084, which cross references to Lucas 72866 and is the same as Triumph Stag.
The passenger side wheelbox is part no. 37H7738, which is Lucas 72879-the same as MGB roadster.
The only Allegro-specific parts are the rack and tubes and the rubber scuttle mounts-as you can see, the repair of the system shouldn't cause too many problems and availability of the main components is easy.

Yes I had lots of problems with my wipers a couple of years ago too.
I did similar, using the ACI parts digital Microfiche. I got the part numbers and googled them.
I got a rack from Rimmer Bros, though they are on ebay.
They listed the rack as for a triumph and gave it part no : RTC202A
They did cross list it from 37h 5208 at the time, though they don't seem to list 37h 5208 anymore. Or cross list it to : RTC202A
Anyway it's my car and it works. disclaimer at your own risk etc!
I did find when changing the wheel boxes, you need to get them nipping the rack tightly. I got it wrong at first and after a week my wipers packed in!
Had to readjust and now have worked for 2 years.
Thanks Dave |
