Can someone advise on the correct engine oil to use, for my 1300. I've heard that 10W30 semi synthetic is best (despite 10W40 having been specificed from new), but want to check that's right especially with the engine and gearbox using the same oil. Thanks.

Is what you want. The grade you mention is too thin, Phil, though would work with advantage (10w40) on a remanufactured engine. Otherwise it's 20w50 grade for our old cars.

It's advisable to change the oil & filter every 3,000 miles or yearly (whichever comes first), and keep a tin handy for topping-up between changes.

Also avoid synthetic oil - stick to mineral oils.

Many thanks. I got Millers classic mini oil, 20w50, the old oil was very black indeed even though it had done only 1500 miles but 2 years. The gear change feels smoother
