Does the 1100 gearbox have provision for a reverse lamp switch, or will I need a manual switch inside the car?
Looking under the car, I can't see anything to suggest the provision has been made, nor does the workshop manual mention anything. _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!

The reversing light switch is mounted on the gear selector box that the gear lever fits into, not on the gearbox.
There may or may not be a switch fitted to your gear selector box, however, there may be an aperture with a blanking plug fitted instead.
It should be straightforward to install a switch & connect it to the existing wiring loom which I assume would have the necassary connectors as the loom was probably common to other Allegros of higher spec. |

Thanks Laurence, I reckon I've found it, it is a small threaded hole covered by a blanking plug as you say. _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!

The switch 13H9130 is common to Minis etc GAE191 minispares.com £7.81
The switch requires a lock-nut to install it so that you can adjust the switch & lock it in position (I don't know if the switch is supplied with lock-nut)
The reverse lamp GAL118 is the Leyland Wipac flush fitting lamp. |

Noted. I have the lamp which I picked up for a couple of quid, it doesn't seem to have been used.
I've been looking through the wiring diagrams for the Allegro, my car doesn't have the harness in the loom, so where should I take the power from going to the switch, and is a fuse necessary - if so where? _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!

The feed for the reverse light switch on later/higher spec Allegro is taken from fuse number 4 (35amp) in the main fuse box.
There are 4 green wires coming from this fuse, one of them goes to the rear screen heater switch which could have an unused spur wire with unused connector attached.
Alternatively, there is a green wire with a double connector with one position unused on Allegro with manual gearbox (this position was used for the automatic gear selector lever quadrant lights on automatic car), so you can use either of the above unused connectors to take a feed to the reverse light switch.
So, now you have a green wire feeding the reverse switch, there should be a green/brown wire in the wiring ribbon going under the carpet on the RH inner sill. Connect the remaining green wire on the reverse light switch to this green/brown wire that goes into the boot & connect the reverse lamp to the green/brown wire in the boot.
Let me know how you get on, some of these wires/connectors may not be present on your car |

There is no provision in the loom at the boot. Dangling from the centre fascia I have a green and white wire, a lilac wire and a black wire, the last two being taped together.
I would be grateful for advice, especially as I also wish to fit a wireless set. _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!
