Found this on ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Truck-Photos-Austin-Allegro-Metroploitan-Police-/321192631535?pt=UK_Car_Parts_Vehicles_Automobila_ET&hash=item4ac8929cef

An interesting photo of one of our old friends, but I am somewhat surprised about the lack of a blue flashing light?

Also I was not aware the police were buying Allegros at so late a date in their production.

A definitive article on public service Allegros in Quartic would be interesting.

Nice spot, Andy! (HLS). After a quick trawl of DVLA, I have discovered a run of seven white 1748cc Austins, AKF145-151X inclusive. I would guess they were all Allegros!

One only lasted to the end of 1984 (in terms of road tax), the longest survivor was last taxed until the end of March 1993.

The crunched Met' car was probably a genuine crash from the police photo archive: but with a bit of print trickery to get the advertising hoarding into the picture (yes, indeed these things were possible before Adobe came on the scene!) no doubt they got a special deal from Uniroyal in return for assisting with the advertising campaign Wink
