The indicators have packed up on my 1500 S2. Its been off the road for a few months. When it was on the road everything was fine but after a few weeks off the road the right hand indicators packed up then the left ones did a month or so later. Hazards still work ok. Any ideas on what the problem is? The same happened to two other allegros I owned a while ago.

Thanks!

I guess checking the fuses is obvious but you just try flicking the hazard switch on and off a few times - not quite sure why but this can often cure non-working indicators - give it a try!

Try changing or flicking the relay that sits under the dash just behind the steering cowl Smile

Just went outside to try the suggestions and they have appeared to have fixed themselves! Hope they remain operational long enough to get though the MOT.

Thanks guys!

Indicator problems again!

First of all the indicators stopped working again, then would only work one side, then the relay fell to bits. A quick trip to my hoard of bits found a good used relay (half as big as the original?). Now the "left" indicators work perfectly with a nice loud "click, clock" sound but the right indicators dont work at all. This isnt a problem when im returning from work as I only have to turn left, but when im going to work I cant let anyone know where im going.

Its only a matter of time before I dissapear under a lorry or something.

Help!

Do they all flash with the hazard switch or not? If they all do then it might be the stalk that's got a problem.

Also, isn't the direction flasher unit smaller than that hazards flasher unit? If you've got direction relay in place of the proper hazards unit then the hazards might not work too well.

The hazards do all work, but they flash very quickly.

The hazard relay is big but the indicator relay is small. Previously the indicator relay was big. Until it fell to bits and I replaced it. Possibly it had been fitted with the wrong type.

It sounds like you now have the correct relays fitted, and that the hazards are flashing quickly because the indicators are not working on one side, so it probably won't be the stalk switch at fault. Have you checked the connector onto the back of the hazards switch?

All sorted. I found that if the indicator stalk was pushed down in a certain way the left hand indicators worked. Looks like cack on the contacts in the indicator stalk or something.

With a bit of a wiggle about (of the stalk) the indicators seem to be working perfectly.

The hazards are still flashing quickly but all four indicators are working.

Thanks for the help Colin!
