Hi and welcome ! Great looking car, is this the one that was on Ebay a while back with the modded dash and Stag wheels? If so, it was the inspiration in my custom Allegro SWK 998Ws dash. Maybe we should start some kind of action group with Jon Murden, "YELLOW AND PROUD OF IT" !!
Cheers

I had a look at the "flickr" photoshare website the other day - put in "austin allegro" and hey presto up come loads of allegro photos -some quite aged. One shot got me quite excited - a bright yellow series 3 HL 4 door with balck vinyl roof snapped when just a few years old- really really attractive!

Thats the one, on Ebay this time last year Smile a bargain at just over £500!

Hopefully I can get the bodywork done this year (not too bad but would rather tackle it now than later) then the K-series conversion next year Very Happy, unless I win the lottery in which case she will get a 1500cc Hayabusa monster in the front Laughing

See you all laters maties.

Interesting, I looked at the possibility of a "K" series for SWK but it doesn`t look like it can be done on the Allegro without some MAJOR surgery to the car`s structure - the gearbox end housing sticks out too far and would interfere with the nearside chassis leg. The problem is that the Allegro hasn`t got a subframe like it`s brothers BL. The Mini takes a "K" series no problem because the subframe can be cut and modified till the cows come home and the inner wings and bulkhead can be cut away to fit, they`re not load bearing. If you know better let me know because I`m about to start work on a 1380cc "A" series but I`d much rather go down the 16v route - I drive a Rover 416 and I love the engine to bits ! (well, since I fitted the new Multi layer shim head gasket).
BTW have you had a peek at Lawrences " Rabbits" thread - the ultimate in 16v conversions ( if you have VERY deep pockets...)
Cheers
Alan

I've not got the tape measure out yet but anything is possible Smile The main things I have noticed just looking is:

Brake master cylinder and servo interfering with the inlet manifold.

The front displacer turrets taking too much room in the engine bay?

I have been looking at 2 16v routes - A, the 1.4 - keeping the suspension as is and uprating the brakes OR the 2.0 / 2.0 turbo with heavy mods to the suspension and brakes???

With the current resession and petrol prices the 1.4 is winning but anything can happen in the next half hour!!! Very Happy

Yep, the suspension turrets a potential problem although they are towards the rear of the engine bay and the engine should still clear as it would be in the same forward position as the original power unit. I`m gonna get the tape measure out again and have another good look. The 1.4 is the way to go IMHO, the SPi kicks out 90BHP and the MPi 103 - my Sport TC had 90BHP and believe me that was bordering on the dangerous acceleration wise - on a standing start it out-accelerated a Golf GTI on the way home from a show !!
The Sport also had no mods to the brakes or suspensio either and stopped as well as can be expected from Allegro brakes.
The other things to take into consideration are the fuel tank / pump and also the immobiliser fitted to the 93 /94 models - its linked to the ECU so an earlier non - immobiliser model would be preferable although it is possible to get the immobiliser bit bypassed by an ECU firm.
Lets keep in touch over this one, I`m still keen to do a K series conversion and I have a shell to play with until I get it right - two heads are definitely better than one !

Cheers
Alan
