I sometimes reflect on which vehicles I would love to own, especially if they could be re-manufactured today. I am not concerned about performance or image, the first four are 'must haves' because of the effect they had on the whole motoring scene. My list of ten iconic vehicles would be:
Model T Ford.
VW Beetle - from the late 1940s with the divided rear window.
Citroen Light 15 Traction Avant from about 1934. (Years ahead of its time)
Mini - Preferably a 998cc Cooper from about 1964.
Austin Metropolitan - early one with no boot lid and great two-tone paint.
Austin J1 van. Narrow with the side valve engine offset to the nearside.
Land Rover 1948 - prototype with central steering wheel.
Morris Minor - 1098cc from about 1970.
Triumph Herald - preferably a 13/60 from about 1970.
Vauxhall Victor 'F' type from 1957. What styling in the 1950s!
I have kept it down to ten only as I didn't want to be too greedy but there are many other vehicles I would like such as an HA Viva; 'Frogeye' Sprite; 1963 Hillman Imp (with all its warts!); Albion Claymore lorry (four cylinder underslung diesel); Bedford TK with a 214 cu. inch petrol engine (as my Father had a number when I was young); a Cadillac Eldorado from around 1968 - V8 and front wheel drive; an early V4 transit van; a 'Brooke Bond' type Trojan Van; a Jowett Jupiter; an early 'E' type Jaguar; a Field Marshall Tractor from about 1945 with a single cylinder 8645 cc diesel engine; and a Commer lorry with a TS3 six piston, three cylinder, supercharged 2 stroke diesel. To my ears the bark from the exhaust of a hard working TS3 beats a V8 or dragster engine any day!
Am I beyond help?
What would other member pick?
