Hello,
My wipers seem very week and only just move.
I checked the motor brushes and they look and spring ok.
I also repacked the box with the correct grease.
Any ideas, new motor?
Lubricate cables?
Thanks Dave |

Is the battery fully charged and is everything else working properly?
Have you checked the wiring? Might be a short circuit drawing current away. _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!

I would suggest that you firstly:
Remove wiper arms.
Remove motor lid and the connecting rod (circlip holding in place with washers) from the motor gear to the rack.
Withdraw rack. It will be very stiff to remove if something has 'tightened up'.
Mark the position of the wiper arm splines.
Check the wiper arm splines rotate easily, and if not lubricate and rotate until free.
Degrease rack and lubricate with a thin grease.
Oil exposed motor bush.
Turn splines 180 degrees from the marked positions (to use another part of the wheel box) and refit rack. It should now move easily and rotate the wheel boxes.
I suggest you try this first but if the problem is not solved the motor might need to be dismantled and/or electrical testing will be needed before condemning the motor.
Let us know how you get on.

Hello,
When I tried to remove the rack, the end piece with the hole in it just came free. I have welded it back on. I have ordered a new rack as it's the same part as a Triumph, from Rimmer Bros. As my repair may not last.
The wipers are back in action with the repaired part fine. The wipers were also making a ticking noise, which has now gone. I will replace the rack and carry out the maintenance procedure, once I get the new part.
Thanks for you help. I agree that it all seems very stiff and may just need freeing up.

Be careful not to strain the motor. _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!

Hello,
I have now performed the maintenance as suggested by Merv and they do seem to work better, thanks for the advice.
