I know, it's that old chestnut again, but there are some new faces among us & some of us need Winter tyres more than others so I'll raise the topic again.
Have a look here to find out if you really should invest in some foul weather tyres, the type which have better performance at or below 7C.

Ive heard of a lot more people investing in these of late Laurence, including a few people at work who really do think they are a very worthwhile investment. I myself have never had any but its something I would consider. Mind you.... if its snowing my rear wheel drive automatic everyday car gets firmly left up the drive and Dads car is promptly taken!!!! |

We didn't get much in the way of snow down here last year, but I needed new tyres for the Lexus's MoT anyway so I bought a set of Winter tyres and they acquitted themselves very well thoughout the cold & wet seasons... I never felt that grip was an issue no matter how slippery conditions got. Hoping to give them a better workout this year As one of my FB friends has reported seeing snow already this year, even if it was a couple of lost flakes, I think it's likely that our traditional Xmas visits may be conducted in snowy conditions again this year!
As for the Allegros, I've a set of chains; I've actually driven Gonzo up a 10% gradient with 4 inches of snow using normal tyres, but it was a bit hairy! As most of my commute is hills and bus routes (that for some reason don't always get treated?), I'd rather err on the side of caution & have something I don't need/use instead of need something I don't have. _________________ ...that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today. |

Even on standard tyres we fortunate enough to use Allegro's all year round are laughing. With winter tyres the traction must be like glue. The only problem is the sump leaving a long trail behind it as it drags through the snow. Still, good for oil cooling I suppose.
