I have just become a member and I have a little story to tell. While at work a few weeks ago we had a chap come in to do some training with us and while having a cup of tea I found out he had a 1974 Allegro 1500 special in his garage, which had been in there for 17 years without moving. Bright orange with a black vinyl roof. He said he just wanted his garage back and was going to get the scrap man to take it away. So now I have a Allegro sat on my drive. I will be honest the Allegro would not be my first choice but the longer I have it the more it makes me smile. 37 years old and in really good condition even the tyres are good, a set of spark plugs and points cleaned and it runs great. I have bills and receipts from 1975 onwards and mot's.While in this guys garage it was covered over with a blanket but the mice took a fancy to it and chewed it up and made a nest on the bonnet and over the years the mice wee burnt the paint off in a area about 10 inches round My aim is to get it back on the road by next year and I can't wait what a great little car, I need a couple of parts for it, it has the original square steering wheel but the centre part is missing can anyone help, I know its like finding hens teeth. Also I need a rear box for Boris, my grandson calls him that so can anyone help. Many thanks Nick,

Hi Nick!!!!

Fantastic!!! Boris sounds superb, and the 1500 Special is a VERY rare car indeed. He must be finished in "Blaze" orange. We would all love photos of him!! Your quartic wheel pad occasionally does come up on ebay so keep a watch out - its the one with the wooden centre you need. A blaze 1500 special was used in a series called "Gangsters" which was made in 1975 and set in Birmingham. There are only three other MK1 specials known to the club - a flamenco red one, a Reynard (bronze) metallic one, and a Brazil (Brown) one thats currently for sale on car and classic that a member, Richard, is thinking about purchasing. I myself have a Harvest Gold 1975 MK1 1100 Deluxe.

May I welcome you to the club and wish you happy Allegro'ing!!! Smile

Wow, what are the odds - we've doubled the known surviving Mk1 Specials in one week! Smile

Welcome, and good on you for saving the car!

What colour is the steering wheel pad? If it's non-wood I can get you one, just ask.
