Hi all, hope we are all well?

I was just thinking, what are our earliest Allegro memories, and / or your fondest memory involving an Allegro?

Ill start off: When i was very small, say 3 or 4 (circa 86-87) i can remember seeing a very tatty series one Allegro in Harvest Gold sitting in my street, i think it was visiting someone who lived in the street at the time. It never appeared again. I can remember beeing mesmorised by the badge on the bonnet and the Quartic wheel!!! This started my love affair with them and i have always seen them as my favourite car.

My fondest memory thus far has to be the arrival of my very own Harvest Gold series one - identical to the one i saw in my street all those moons ago....just wish i could remember what model it was!!!

Going back to 1979 my then best mate Derek had use of his dad's N reg Harvest Gold Allegro1100DL as a replacement for his red Mk2 Ford Cortina. It was several years newer but at the time seemed a bit downmarket compared to the Cortina,(don't shout at me, I wasn't a convert then!), however we used it whenever his dad allowed.
I recall Derek, (who was always on the pull but never quite seemed to get any girls), saw a car with 3 or 4 girls in and much to my embarrassment we ended up parallel with them on the A45 dual carriageway, windows down, The Stranglers blaring out the cassette player, him trying to look suave and me sinking lower and lower in my seat! He then followed them to a pub, we followed them in and exited through another door when they met up with their somewhat larger than us boyfriends!!
On another occasion in mid 1980 we went down for a party weekend with friends in West London and returned via the M40 which only went as far as Oxford then. Ever heard an 1100 engine running at almost 100mph? Mind you , 200 mile round trip and change out of £5 for petrol, ah, yes those were the days.

Hi Chris! What a fantastic series of memories!! N reg Harvest Gold 1100DL - just like mine!!! Wouldnt be my obvious choice as a pulling machine hehe, the Stranglers though - top notch!!! (Harvest Golden Brown????). Change out of £5 of petrol, yes that would do very nicely indeed! Thanks Chris, really appreciate that, enjoyed the vivid picture you painted.

Great Memories Laurence!! I drove a Mini once: was jolly good fun in the short round the block test drive, knew it was rotten as a pear so wasnt going to buy it....but wanted a shot of one!!! Drove well.....you could see the road through the floor though
