|
|
A firm favourite programme of mine from 19 years ago...lost count of the number of times ive seen it! (Would love it on DVD if anyone has the facility). Im wondering though (and apologies if this has been covered before) what happened to the cars and their owners featured in 1994? Do any of the cars still exist, are there owners still in the club (it noted a 450 strong owners club so were down on that unfortunately) and will any of these people at the 21st birthday bash be here to celebrate next years 40th??
We know the fate of the FOX cars unfortunately (the fox hunt that the club undertook many moons ago fascinated me...wish i could find that thread now).
But what about:
1.) VRF 144L - Harvest Gold Deluxe: id be surprised if Colin does not still own this one!!
2.) FTL 927W - White VP
3.) VMT 255X (Cant see it that well) Blaze HLS
4.) GOC 957L: Teal 1750SS
5.) ROP 786M - White 1750SS
6.) ROB 192M - Blaze 1300 SDL
7.) SOC 964M - Harvest Gold 1500
8.) SNY 690M - Bracken 1300 SDL Two Door -Possibly Colin Corke's
9.) VTX 412T - Russet Brown Series 2
10.) UXC 505M - Damask 1300 SDL (looked a bit crispy even then) David Goodier
11.) BKX 836T - Blue 1500 Series 2 Estate (i saw a thread that this was on ebay recently looking very sorry for itself which is a shame as it looked immaculate here)
12.) HEO 696N - Harvest Gold 1300SDL 2 Door
13.) AOU 454V - The Equipe!!!
14.) 1371 BP - Bryan and Janet Peebles with their immaculate blue VP
Lots of cars at the birthday party celebrations, cant make them all out but what about:
15.) YOR 687V The Yellow with black Vinyl roofed Series 3
16.) NNN 815W: Another Equipe this time with its owner Robin Eaton
17.) CBP 716W: Silver with Black Vinyl Roof Series 3
18.) VUW 709M Blaze 1750 Sport 2 door with owner Michelle Spencer
19.) TTO 27R: Blue VP
20.) MWP???? Beige Series 3
21.) ?XV 378X Blue Series 3 Estate
22.) PAL 894R - Blue Series 2
23.) NWL 805T - Tara Green (black wing) series 2
Where are the cars and their owners now???
Thanks in advance. Hope we are all well.
Kind Regards
Russell. |

Don't forget there are another 2 TV stars in the clubs collection, Brian the VP being one of them
Why "Brian" you ask? Well back in 1999 what is now my son Stephen's VP, KDL164W appeared on an early edition of "Wheeler Dealers" with Mike Brewer driving it around Greenwich Park, London and then we saw the owner negotiating it's sale
5 years later up it pops again this time on prime time Channel 5 programme "Britain's Worst Celebrity Driver" being driven (not too kindly!) by Brian Blessed and daughter from John O Groats to Lands End, hence the name we gave it when we bought it shortly after the series ended. It appeared on the ACI stand at the NEC in 2008 with yet another club TV star, the Allegro police car from "Life On Mars" |

Morning Chris, hope you are well? I have certainly seen the Life on Mars Panda Car but had no idea about Brian: ill need to try and see these!!! Sounds really good - i can well imagine how Brian was driven as i recently saw a series called "Britains Great Drives" by Richard Wilson and he made a meal of driving every classic car that featured on the series - it was cringeworthy!!! |

Well, I am still the owner of AOU 454V (the Equipe).
Off the road since the end of 1995 (I think) after the gearbox lost drive and holes in the bodywork were getting larger Still almost a full tank of petrol in there, too....
It will get restored one day, but there are other cars in the queue to sort out first.
TTO 27R and PAL 894R are still in the Bennett family, I believe, but none of them have been club members for many years now. TTO was badly damaged in an accident and rebuilt with a secondhand (complete) roof from a scrap Allegro not long after the filming took place.
Bryan Peebles still has his VP as far as I know, but it is now back on its original registration of WFO 82T. |

Hi Paul! Great to hear from you and thanks for the reply. Thats absolutely fantastic that you still own the Equipe! It looked great and im sure you will get her restored to her former glory soon! I remember fondly your car from the programme, looked sensational in the (studio) im assuming. Great to hear also of the Bennett's Allegros, was sorry to read about TTO though but great that it got fixed!! And really good to know Bryan still has his VP: He seemed so enthusiastic about the car and it clearly had (has) a loving home Thanks very much Paul, thats made my day hearing this |

One more from that list..........VWT 256X (the Vermilion 1.3HLS)
That car was owned by my wife between 1996 and 2000 (although she wasn't my wife then lol) and it was sold to make way for a Rover 216GTi Twin Cam.
Somebody from Liverpool bought it after seeing the ad in Quartic, but it didn't seem to spend long on the road after that. Maybe he was just after the MG Metro engine that had been fitted a few years before, or possibly even the MG Maestro digital dash/voice synthesis (must try doing that on one of my project cars!).
Admittedly rust had taken a hold in various parts of the body, but the car was definitely not beyond saving |

Morning Paul! Brilliant!! Great to know that the car lasted until fairly recently as it looked great, i do hope that it is still around and undergoing / awaiting restoration! The digital voice box was always a cool touch!!
On another note does anyone have a copy of the programme that i could pay to have made into a dvd? The only thing i have is a download from the youtube upload but this copy has a dodgy bit of tape that makes the picture disapear at parts and also the sound is dubbed at the part youre Equipe is in Paul, presumably to stop paying the rights to Abba: its annoying as i cant recall what gets said here!! |

Unless you purchased the rights to the programme, you wouldn't legally be allowed to pay a company to make it into a DVD. Your best bet would be to approach the original production company & ask if they'd be willing to do it for you. _________________ ...that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today. |
