Hi gents,
Allegro failed the MoT today; 'Steering column shaft has excessive end float'.
Is this likely to just be a coupling required or something similar?
Other than that it needs a suspension strap, so I'm quite impressed really!
Thanks,
Alex. _________________

It sounds like the pinch bolt between the upper column and lower column needs to be tightened. This kept coming loose on my sister's estate. You can tell if it's this or the pinch bolt between the lower column and rack by trying to pull/push the steering wheel in/out. If it is one of these bolts it's very easy to tighten, although for the lower one you will need to move the carpets/soundproofing and remove the shroud. For the upper one you may need to remove the parcel tray, not sure. _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |

There's a bush that fits in the top of the steering column. I've never replaced one, so I don't know what kind of job it is. But I suspect that it is worn and needs replacing.
Good luck,
