Okay, here's one to ponder about:
I've just bought a personal reg. no.*, and I'm umming about which car to fit it to - my daily so it gets seen a lot, or the showcar for some extra prestige... But then I start wondering about whether it would "devalue" the showcar, seeing as it's won trophies and has such an interesting history.
Am I overthinking this? While the plate and the car are investments, if I ever need to sell the car I doubt that being re-registered is going to be a concern - it's not like it's historically significant, or indeed has any other real "special-ness", and as I'm not selling the old number it would revert when I remove my own plate.
(*While the plate has great meaning to me, it's not going to be obvious to non-enthusiasts that it was unlikely to have been issued to an Allegro - it's not dateless, it's not Irish, it's not a word.) _________________ ...that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today. |

Hmm, this isn't something I have ever thought about, but in my opinion if a car has a really interesting history then I'd rather see the original plate, as it's part of the 'idenity' and 'charater' of the car.
If the car has no meaningful history/character/special 'identity' then putting a different plate on it wouldn't make any difference to it in my view. _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |

I think I'll wait until I feel like it's more "my" car before I start stamping my name on it Until then, it'll be fun to have the plate on Walter, where it will look slightly more age-appropriate anyway. _________________ ...that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today. |

What does the plate read Richard? I assume it's something pre 1975 so will go on the white one?

It's a '65 dated plate and will likely go on the white one, but as he's a '75 I legally shouldn't use B&W plates. I may chance it anyway though, as I think black plates on a white car would look great. Besides, you see so many cars with black plates that aren't entitled (including a few from the 80s & even 90s near me!), and they're never stopped! _________________ ...that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today. |

Right, today I opened Tara's glovebox & found the original Supercover wallet, pre-delivery check mirror hanger, and temporary AA membership card... With so much history related to & including the car's original number plate, I think I'm just going to have to keep it _________________ ...that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today. |

I doubt if those "moderns" with black plates would be stopped but i suspect your mot tester might not like them!
If you wanted i suppose there is no probelm with having a set of "showplates" for sticking on at shows if you so wish! I guess they couild say what ever you wanted! _________________ "If you think an allegro is intresting you are criminally insane" Said the man in the 12mpg Range Rover sport as it depreciated another £100 in the time it took to write this! |

Tara already has a white acrylic with "TARA" on, not quite period but it'll do until I finish haggling with a couple of guys about getting a matching set made for my fleet _________________ ...that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today. |
