Hi everyone,
Just new to the club so apologies if iam asking questions that have been answered 100 times before.
Firstly does anyone know my car xwr 668x,he spent most of his days around Harrogate and has an old ACI badge and JOG to Land's End badges
Ozzy is getting MOT prep. at the moment and he has developed a weep at a "junction" in the clutch pipe-work,this strange circular box is half way between the master and slave but i have no idea what it is and cannot find it on either the Allegro manual or a metro manual...what is it and can it be bypassed!
And has anyone a picture of the sill struture...Ozzy had a thumb sized hole at the bottom of the wing,which on closer inspection was a head sized ball of body filler and "no more gaps" foam filler !!!!So i now have to make repairs to the jacking point,inner sill,floor to inner sill junction and the bottom of the front wing.Problem is the inner sill appears to be part of the floor with a separate L shaped plate/strip bonding the bottom of the outer sill and the floor.
Is this correct or has Ozzy been bodged with a cover sill...any ideas
Does anyone know if i can source repair panels for any of the above !!!

Hi Stephen,

I don't think there are any Search Police on this site so ask away & I'm sure someone will be able to help.

If the outer sill has to be removed, the front wing & door/s should be removed, then drill out all the spot-welds including those at the base of the A,B & C pillars (on a four-door).

Then you'll be able to see the extent of the corrosion/rot to the inner sill etc.

As far as I know, nobody produces new panels for the Allegro, so you will have to source new-old-stock or decent used panels or make up your own from sheet steel.

The ACI Spares Service has some panels. Ebay is also a good place to enquire, or place a 'wanted' ad on this site or in classic car mags or newspapers.

The strange circular box sounds a bit odd to me, maybe you could put up some pictures of it so I/we can work out what it is.

Hi Stephen,

I think the strange circular box you refer to is a clutch damper unit.

It is fitted to 'soften' the release & engagement of the clutch.

If you don't want to keep it in the system, just remove it & (if the original pipe & hose are still in situ) reconnect the original pipe & hose & bleed the system.

Hi Stephen,

I 'googled' clutch dampers & it appears that the damper used on Allegros, Metros etc is a Lockheed LD 11002.

A similar & probably compatible damper is fitted to the Landrover Discovery, part number STD 10002L.

If you google Allegro, Metro, Lockeed LD11002 clutch damper it shows nil, but if you google clutch damper, it shows the Discovery damper.

Thanks Laurence, just googled "clutch damper" and that's the offending article...wonder why it's not shown on the manual?
Ozzy's outer sills are ok...the rust (so far ) appears to be confined to where jacking point,inner sill and floor meet..

The clutch damper is not an essential part of the system: it was fitted to some Metros and late Allegros to reduce clutch judder, but to be quite honest, I've never noticed the difference!

It is quite ok to bypass it.

The registration of your car sounds vaguely familiar........is it a dark blue 4-door saloon? If so, I think it belonged to one of the North West group of the club a couple of years ago.

It is good to see another Irish member in the club: we have a few now, both in NI and the Republic.
