Has anybody tried this?
I found an old bottle of this in my Dad's garage and so covered half of my windscreen and back window.
The rain appears to bead, but when wet the treated glass looks more cloudy or hazy than untreated glass. It seems to get more hazy when the wipers move across the screen, and then gets clearer. I was only using intermittent so on constant wiping this might it hazy all the time?
I was only going 30mph or less, does it have a better effect at higher speeds?
Anybody got any experiences of this stuff? _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |

Hi Colin,
Yes, I've used Rain X & I had a similar problem on my van front windscreen, so I used window cleaner to clean the Rain X off.
The windscreen on my silver VP doesn't seem to be affected.
I think, maybe I should have cleaned the van windscreen thoroughly before applying the Rain X (as per instructions). I'll give it another try soon. |

I had cleaned my windscreen with washer fluid and rinsed it off - I'm sure mine was clean. Maybe it depends on the glass or the tint or something like that. _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |

Just using washer fluid won't get rid of all the contaminants; try using a proper glass cleaner first. On a well-prepared surface, Rain-X used to be "the shit" (as the kids say); one of my old bosses owed his life to it, as he used it religiously on his old 205D and happened to be out in a massive storm one time, the rain was so bad the wipers couldn't keep up alone but the beading meant he could see clearly enough to avoid a fencepost that embedded itself in the windscreen just inches from his head! Needless to say, as soon as the screen was replaced, it got Rain-Xed!
Once you've done the initial clean & first application, subsequent applications build on this and improve the results further. _________________ ...that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today. |

Ah so this stuff works best at high speed in heavy rain then (which is when it would be needed most)?
I find that the fast wipers only just cope with the worst rain on the motorway. So maybe it would be worth getting some glass cleaner and trying again, and giving it a good test at 70mph in heavy and see how it does then. In those conditions, improvement would be very welcome. _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |
