hi. I am a new member my name is paul mahiques i joind this year. I bought a 1974 1300 2door allegro the colour is tundra green the car is not in bad condition for its age. I have done some jobs inside the car this includes repairing the splits in the dash and just a small bit of welding on the floor the rest of the floor is solid. As i am a welder by trade i did this my self.I have bought a carpet set to replace the faded and ripped old carpets. so for now that is it. WILL KEEP YOU posted.

Hi Paul & welcome,

Nice to hear about your '74 Allegro.

The smoking engine could be caused by worn valve guides & seals in the head and/or worn/stuck piston oil control rings.

Have the head refurbished & have hardened valve seats fitted to enable the use of unleaded petrol.

If the engine still smokes with the refurbished head fitted (after any oil residue has burnt out of the exhaust system) etc., the engine will probably need a rebore with new pistons & rings etc.
