Hi all-
Well, my fuel gauge has been slowly dying recently. I was resigned to the thought that I'd need a new sender, which would probably not seal and cause bigger problems, so I thought I'd just get by without a gauge.

Today, I took my little test light, and noticed that when I pulled the wire off and earthed it against the rear lamp earth, I didn't get a light and the gauge didn't move- so it wasn't the sender!

I then pulled the instrument cluster out (remembering to remove the bolt for the speedo cable on the firewall). Doing so, I had one of the flat 'multiplugs' come off. Aah. I clicked it back on, and when I turned the key, the fuel gauge works!

As you'd expect, these BL connectors are made of the cheapest fiddliest plastic ever made, and are really delicate- always worth a check before condemning anything else!

The wire for the gauge is a green and black one, and its second from the end of the connector on a s3 car.

cheers,
Brian
