Colin,
From what I have read in your post so far, Laurence has hit the nail on the head: check the timing before spending time and money on anything else. |

Thanks guys. I think the starter motor isn't too bad, but not as good as the other one temporarily fitted.
I'm not sure how the timing would affect the cranking speed?
The problem was purely the cranking speed, which was clearly too slow to get the car to start. Once I tried the warmed battery, the car cranked at normal speed and started immediately - I haven't had any problem with the car cranking at normal speed but not starting, it always catches quickly if cranking fast enough. _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |

If the ignition is too far advanced, as suggested, the engine will kick against the starter because the spark occurs too soon. This will happen no matter how good the battery. _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!
