Hi everyone, was just wondering what the theme of this year's Peterborough Rally is, so I can try and get Charlie, my series 3, dressed up if necessary.

Not long after Xmas a few of us in the North Thames Group put our heads together about Peterborough and what we could do this year.

We came up with 'Leyland on Strike'. A slightly tongue in check theme, but I think it will grab alot of attention!

Lots of props have already been up by some very willing volunteers and they look fantastic.

Room permitting we hope to the cars lined up like a production line with the workers on strike!

If anyone wants to dress up in blue boiler suits that will add to the overall effect!

that sounds like a good idea. Will try and get hold of a blue boiler suit before then. Do the cars need anything doing to them to make it look like a production line, or are we leaving them as standard?

Just leaving them as they are.

I did have the idea of taking my hubcaps and number plates off to make it look like a production line car but the hubcaps aren't the easiest things to get on and off

Ok, I'm probably gonna take the reg plates off mine. Do we need 'ON STRIKE' plaquards etc then? A picket line might be a good idea, at the front of the stand, if we are allowed an incinerator or something. Are we in the middle again this year or on the side? We could have a sign on one of the car roof's saying '100,000th Allegro' or something, which they sometimes did on the production line??

Hi All,
"Marianne's Productions" has been working for many weeks preparing props and we have a 'fake' brazier (made from a large oil drum) with moving 'flames' and 'burnt' wood, a pallet, and seven placards on poles are prepared with suitable captions, and two overall-clad 'strikers' (manikins) with name tabs and British Leyland badges.
It was decided not to do anything too controversial so as not to upset anyone, but to treat it in a light hearted manner. We decided to stop at that due to possible limited space, but it should look good with the cars suitably arranged!

It wold be great if you want to dress up and add to the display. I intend to wear a boiler suit. Hopefully won't be too hot!

Mervyn and Marianne have made up loads of props so we should have plently for the stand but many thanks for the offer.

In general, anyone who wants to dress up in boiler suits etc to make it look like we have a group of BL workers on strike is more than welcome too.

I should have some overalls to wear. I should also be able to supply a 'strike affected' car in terms of one that looks dodgily built - I have the world's WORST EVER respray (I'm not kidding....). Could this be incorporated into a militant production line or should I hid it at the back of the stand?

Just wondered who's camping over on saturday night before the BMC/BL rally. Me and Charlie (my series 3) will be again, all being well. Just had to buy a new tent, went camping this week and had both main support poles snap on me, I repaired them as best I could, but then they snapped in another place so I gave up and bought a new one!! I will definitely buy a spare set of poles though, just incase. The new one isnt as easy to put up, so I will probably pitch my tent on the general camping field and walk over to the club stand, otherwise I will delay everyone setting up on the sunday morning lol.

See you all on the 1st August, as long as Charlie's well enough!

Not long now until BL Day!

The 'Leyland on Strike' will include a number of boards, an oil drum and two very well dressed Manniquins. There is a fair amount of display material so we will be fairly tight on space along with the 35-40 Allegros that normally turn up.

Marianne and Mervyn Irvine have put a great deal of work into some fantastic props.

Anyone who wishes to dress up in boiler suits etc to add to the overall effect will be more than welcome to do so.

The theme is very much 'tongue in check' and will merely play on accepted part of the Allegro's long and varied History.

Here's to a great day and some nice sunny weather to show off all those shiney Allegro's!
