Using the radio in Gonzo has always been a fine art; the one he had when I bought him was crap, and always defaulted to a volume almost but not quite entirely inaudible to humanity. The Citroen had a far superior stereo and this was duly swapped over, and all was good for a while - not only is it audible, it autotunes better and can even occasionally pick up a signal without me having to remember to lift the aerial!
However, in the last couple of weeks suddenly the signal is crap, there's buzzing on the speakers, and then it hits me - the alternator or some other ignition component is no longer being suppressed. Confirmation of this seems to have come by accident, when the alternator didn't immediately start generating the other day and so I was left with a clearer signal until I revved up & got it going again.
Is there a suppressor built into the alternator, and if so could its failure be indicative of other possible faults I need to consider? Alternatively, is there a simple way to fit something to the aerial lead so I don't have to try and work out which component needs replacing? _________________ ...that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today. |
