1750 cluch arm stuck out??!!

The clutch arm on my 1750 is stuck in the out position (i.e. where it is with the pedal pressed down), car has stood for 20 years. I haven't tried removing the slave cylinder to see if that will free it, but I couldn't lever the lever in further into the slave cylinder.

Could something inside the clutch be causing this? Will there be damage the clutch internals as a result? I don't know much about clutches, the most I've done before is freeing up a seized plunger.

Probably the arm pivot and release bearing plunger in the casing, I had the same thing with a Series 2 I picked up last year - pretty easy to fix. Try unbolting the slave from the housing and see if the arm goes back, if not then you`ll have to remove the clutch outer cover and free it all off.

Hi Colin , you may be lucky enough to free off & make workable the clutch release arm/plunger etc & hopefully the clutch will be serviceable, but I think that after being stood for 20years there will be substanstial corrosion to the flywheel/centre plate/pressure plate assembly.
I would suggest that you strip the assembly down then clean & inspect, look at the splines on the primary gear because if they are corroded/clogged they will prevent the centre plate from engaging/disengaging properly during use.
The clutch master cylinder & slave cylinder are both probably seized or at least corroded internally so the seals will be scored during use.
It seems that when the car was first layed up the clutch pedal was held depressed so the centre plate didn't stick to the flywheel & now the mechanism has 'frozen' into that position, cheers, Laurence.

Thanks for the replies - I had thought that the clutch arm may have been held out whilst in storage and stuck there (so stuck out in trying to avoid it getting stuck in!). I'll look at the cylinders and re-seal/replace where necessary. If necessary I could have the old ones refurbished with stainless steel sleeves but buying new ones might be cheaper. I'll look at replacing the cluch plate, oil seal and bearing if necessary.
