I'm having a few electrical problems witth brenda now that her engine and suspension have been sorted.
First of all the hazard warning lights didn't work, bought a new flasher unit and you could hear a slight tick, looked on the forum and it mentioned the fuse, so I looked at the fuse box and there were various fuses and some not the correct size so I thought replace the lot. So it now has new fuses but alas the hazzards still didn't work.
However this morning the hazzards worked, but the wipers and blowers didn't, I jiggled some wires and the blowers and wipers started working.
The reversing lights weren't working so checked the switch and a wire was loose from when they refitted the rebuilt engine. Re attached the wire and the O/S worked but the N/S didn't so set about replacing bulbs etc and the wire.
Now the reversing lights, brake lights and indicators all do not work. Is it relatively easy to remove and replace the fusebox? Do the wires have to be cut or are there spade connectors or similar that are easily removed? _________________ 1979 Austin Allegro 1300 SDL (Brenda)

Turns out that the fusebox is incorrectly wired up, the hazzard warning lights are covered by fuse 4 and the reversing lights etc is no. 3. _________________ 1979 Austin Allegro 1300 SDL (Brenda)

| You can't inplug the fuse box (easily), if you wanted to remove it you would have to cut all the wires going to it & then reconnect each wire indivdually. If you are having problems caused by poor connection of the fuses in the fuse box you could clean the fuse holder tips with wet & dry emery paper wrapped around a small wooden stick or scrape the fuse holder tips with a screwdriver or similar tool but remember to disconnect the battery first. You could clean the fuse end caps with wet & dry emery if they look reasonable & fit for re-use. You could also carefully squeeze the fuse holder tips together enough to ensure that the fuse is a snug fit. If you give the holder tips & fuses a thin smear of vaseline or similar on re-assembly it will protect them from corroding, cheers, Laurence. |

Everything is working ok now I'll just have to make a note in the handbook and manual that Fuse 3 covers those that are listed against fuse 4 and vice versa _________________ 1979 Austin Allegro 1300 SDL (Brenda)
