Some of you may have noticed in recent issues of Practical Classics etc. that supplies of four star leaded petrol are dwindling: most of the companies that were doing it can no longer justify it due to insufficient demand.

Gulf is the only company that is continuing to supply it.

I thought it would be a good idea if all ACI 4* users could post details of their nearest supply on here, so that we all have a good idea where it can be obtained from if we are away from home.

So to start:

Redhall Garage (Renault franchised dealer), Coleorton, Leicestershire. This is conveniently situated on the A512 that links M1 junction 23 (Loughborough) with A/M42 junction 13 (Ashby/Coalville).

Open till 7.30pm Mon-Fri, 4pm Sat.

There were a couple of other garages in this area doing it, but they have run out and will not be getting any more. Redhall is a Gulf station and have said that they will stock it for as long as it is available

I still buy 4 Star for Gladys from:

Prestons Garage (Skoda Dealers), Lordship Lane, Writte, Nr Chelmsford, Essex. They are Texaco Petrol Agents.

Currently they are charging £1.45/litre.

Again, they will continue to stock the petrol whilst it is available. Apparently they do a really good trade with it selling to Classic Car and Bike owners in the area.

I have to say the car does run very well on this Petrol.

Garage on the A50, south of Holmes chapel, Cheshire. Just off J18 of the M6!

I just run my agg on straight unleaded.

Don't forget you can blend your own REAL leaded petrol via tetraboost.
Just google "tetraboost" and it'll tell you everything you need to know!

At least if you blend your own, or use a proven additive, you know that it should be safe to use in your engine. I would think that additives have been in use long enough now to prove that they do work effectively. As different chemicals are used it is however wise to keep to the same type. What guarantee do you have that fuel sold as leaded (at a rediculous price) is OK?

Merv.

The Garage in Woolmer Green (next to stevenage) does a roaring trade in 4 star, the last time I noticed anyone filling up it was about 20p more expensive than unleaded.

So I decided I'd treat my Allegro asa she's given me a few miles of trouble free motoring, and lets just say it was slightly more than I was excpecting. At 246p a Litre she only got 10 litres worth Embarassed

Same here, last time Teresa went to fill her HLS up, she was told that the next delivery would be a massive increase over the £1.60 she had to pay.

That tankful has lasted her most of the show season, and I have to confess that our other Allegro (Penelope) hardly ever gets treated to 4-star: it's straight unleaded from Morrisons, with 'Valvemaster Plus' added if we remember!

Having said that, when she has had real 4 star in there, we do notice the difference: the engine seems to pull a little better than when it's unleaded + additive. (1500 twin carb, by the way)
