I've said yes but it would obviously depend on price. Of the various Allegros my family has had, only one set of headlamps has been free of rust under the silver coating - this coating inevitably deteriorates over time due to condensation if a car is used in the wet or stands outside without a cover. _________________ Hell has frozen over...... the car formally known as 'Heap' is back on the road! |

Hello all,
yes I'm also interested in a pair of headlamps. First post, so I'm not sure to actually vote "yes" yet!

|
|
| ive had a heck of a time with my lights, one was a bit loose, and on removing it found it to be different, it had no glass lump bits on it, where it usually contacts the outer metal cowl thing. I'd got two other headlights, tht id taken off a scrap car at a small breakers yard in sibble hedingam, (been closed every time after ive gone there) they had 2 allegros one on top of the other, very very poor state though. managed to get a few bits that were useable though, so not a dead loss. anyway, the two lights i got from there, i found only one of those had the right bumps, nd had a totally different light fixing technique on the back (a rotated ring thing not the twin clip affair usually seen) even had big round bulbs in them. so to save the messing about i'd say the spares dept ones would be best, as that way you know they will be right, and the same as each other. |

Hi, thought some of you may be having probs getting headlamp units after reading some of your entries. The Allegros use the same units as those fitted to Reliant Kitten & Rialto, Triumph Dolomite & Toledo, Talbot (Hillman) Avenger, Hunter & Minx so if you know of any scrappys with these cars or there components or contact Reliant dealers or Rimmer Bros for Triumph parts they should be able to help.
I have fitted Metro Mk1 units, they had to be modded to fit, I cut & flattened the top angled bracket to make them fit into the headlamp holder frame. I bought the units new & still boxed at Peterborough autojumble stalls, one cost £5 & the other £8. I have fitted halogen 'conversion' bulbs, they have the original circular flange but instead of having a spherical tungsten bulb they have the cylindrical halogen bulb, they are brighter with a whiter light, cheers, Laurence. |

Hi all.
Well we have taken delivery of them...
Price £30.00 per pair including bulbs.
Units are genuine Cibie Halogen replacement units.
If you want to order, please follow usual proceedures.

Hi Russell, you'll have to obtain & fill out an official ACI Spares order form which you can get from George, but if you need the headlamps soon I would try to source them locally.
I phoned Rimmer Brothers today asking for two Toledo/Dolomite headlamps as they are Allegro counterparts. They wanted £70 + VAT per unit so it would have totalled almost £200 with postage etc! I then phoned a local scrappy, RPB in Plymouth & they had some Metro 1 headlamps @ £10 each as new in boxes (dusty boxes), so I'll alter the brackets & put them in my as new (but dusty) VP, cheers, Laurence. |

Hi Russell,
Given that your car is four years away from being on the road, and that you're getting it done up properly, my advice would be buy the new ones from Spares. As Laurence says, Rimmer Brothers are selling them new for far, far more money!

This just shows the value of the spares service, a saving of £67.25 per brand new headlight. (And postage is free ) |

Depending on the level of originality you want to maintain on your restoration, you might be better off sticking with the standard fit Lucas sealed beam units (assuming they still work!)
all the best
