Well,it's only taken me weeks to get online but here I am!I have to admit i'm a novice not only when it comes to the maintenance of allegros but also to using a forum,so please bear with me!Anyhow,i'm Linzi and my beast is Aggie,my 1976 Astral Blue(with vinyl roof!)VP.I got her from ebay and she was living in Hampshire,so to get her from there to Worcestershire was a bit of a nail-biter,but with a few stops and a visit from the AA man(i nearly needed the other AA!)she got there.I take her to work nearly every other day(about 5 miles there and back) to stretch her wings;from what i gathered she'd hardly moved in ages so i think she appreciates the exercise!I thought i must get to grips with the forum as i attended the 35th Party at Kings Norton last sunday(18th may).It was my 1st visit to an Allegro gathering, where i was made to feel very welcome.Despite Aggie not being at her best yet,she was made to feel very welcome too,so thanks to everyone for making it a great day and one to remember, not only for me but my mum and stepdad who came along for support(and to help me find the Patrick Museum)! It's lovely to see people who love their allegros and has inspired me to keep the faith when it comes to maintaining mine.Aggie had a service a couple of weeks ago and the mechanic was impressed with her condition-there were a couple of bits and bobs, but nothing urgent or major-so far so good!Oh,nearly forgot,if anyone knows of any VP hubcaps around,i'd be very grateful if i could be pointed in the right direction.Aggie's missing 2,someone stole the other 2 before i had her(Why just the 2?!).Thanks.Looking forward to chatting with everyone.Bye for now.

Hi Linzi, welcome to the forum! I spent most of the day on the regalia table (or hovering maternally in its vicinity) and can't remember your Aggie - any pictures?

Hi Linzi it was my first show also at Birmingham too. Glad you were made very welcome I felt the same. I have a vanden plas at home in sandglow with a vinyl roof but alas the vinyl roof has seen better days. I got alot of support and enthusiasm from other members to get her back on the road, so if time allows I may well have a bash. Hope you find 2 vanden plas hubs why do people do that I had the same problem last year but took only one, I couldnt work it out either. Anyway enjoy your vanden plas and maybe our 2 vinyl roofs can meet up at a show sometime. If not in that one look out for the police allegro you would be very welcome. Enjoy the summer if we get one ha ha. Andrew

Hi Linzi,

Very glad to hear you felt welcome at the event, as I was the first to greet you when you arrived!

Aggie was definitely a good buy, and although Allegro ownership does have its ups and downs from time to time, you will find plenty of support within the club if you need it.

Hope to see you at a few more events; admittedly there are not many organised for your area at the moment, but if you want to venture a little further afield, please contact my (infinitely!) better half Teresa (TeresaV on the forum), as she looks after events around the Midlands.

Or join in with Chris Williamson's road run/treasure hunt on June 29th: it will be a great day out and give Aggie a chance to stretch her legs a little!

All the best

Paul

WELCOME!

yer definitely come to my Dads treasure hunt thingy, it sounds good... well to be honest, he wont even tell me the route or hint at where it might go! All very hush-hush, but im sure it’s going to be good. If the weathers good bring a picnic, the Walnut picnic tables are perfect for such occasions! Wink

Cheers, steve
.... (I had the brown Vanden Plas estate at the 35th btw)

Linzi,

It would be great if you could bring Aggie on the treasure hunt.

But if she is unwilling, we will all be pleased to see you and your family anyway (we like to think that in this club, the people are just as important as the cars.........well, almost! Wink )

all the best

hi paul.i'll hopefully be free for the treasure hunt, with or without aggie,it sounds like fun and a different way to spend a sunday!i forgot to say earlier on that aggie had a service last month and today i went to the garage to settle the bill.the mechanic had to order in a couple of bits for her and when i went to see him today he said that the guy that he ordered the bits from recognised her registration and that she had been in the birmingham post and mail!!!!if you go to their site and type in allegro 35th then click on sub-link,there are a couple of pics on there-i'm the last pic in the gallery!!!(by the way,i was asked to pose like that)!there's a couple more photos of jeremy lovingly polishing his pride and joy too.i'm going to ring the paper in the next few days if i get chance and see if i can get a copy of the paper itself(if that's possible?).got a few busy days coming up so i'll bid you all farewell and look out for me friday 11pm on itv2 for the isle of wight festival highlights(i'm the one in the allegro t-shirt)!bye for now Smile

Linzi,

One of our local members brought along a copy of the Birmingham Post page at the weekend, and we will try to laminate or frame it so that it can be displayed at other events this year.

there is also a web address on there from which copies of the pictures can be ordered, so if you have had no luck so far, I'll pass the details on to you.

Hope the festival went ok Smile

Hi Linzi,
Welcome to the club and the forum from us down south (south thames group),its always great to see new people in the club and on the forum!,hopefully our paths will cross at a show this year,i am the allegro estate nutter with an allegro equipe too thrown in for good measure
Its lovely to read that another allegro has a good home and is being cherished
I always think that every show you go to or event is helping people remember the old allegro from when they might of owned one or their grandad owning one and it shows that they were actually a good car if they have survived this long
Good luck with your lovely vp!!
take care
Richie g Very Happy

Hi Linzi,

Ive just read this thread and ive got a set of VP hubcaps in the garage I dont want. They were on my Allegro but I wanted to return it to its original Austin hubcaps.

Two of them are very good but two have a couple of dents, nothing too bad. You can have them free of charge if they are of any use to you. Im up in Stoke but I can give them to my Dad in Birmingham on Saturday if that makes it easier for you to collect.

*edit* Ive got a set of VP embellisher rings that fit behind the hubcap too, theyre not in great condition but again theyre yours if you want them. I need the clutter out of my garage!

P.s your VP sounds great!
