Pleased to say that we completed our 1,750 (approx) mile tour of the Irish coastline last week with no more drama than a split fuel pipe, sticky wipers and rumbly transmission. (One defect per car, as three took part!)
Jenny will, I am sure, be posting some photos soon
For those interested in statistics, the most economical car overall was Peter Simmonds' series 3 1300 (non A+), closely followed by Jenny + Craig's series 3 1.0 ('Percy') with Teresa and I trailing by several mpg as a result of using the performance and refinement of our twin-carb 1.5 to the full ('Penelope')
Any suggestions for future marathon drives? _________________ But you'd better be quick. Because the Allegro Equipe is a Limited Edition that's going to move like its looks! Vroom, Vroom! |

In no particular order:
Parked up, um, somewhere:
The Cliffs of Moher:
A road with some sheep on it:
A lake:
The Burren:
Camping in Ballycastle:
The ropebridge at Carrick-a-Brede (which Teresa and I crossed alone, since all the men were too scared )
Penelope's petrol pipe problem:
Parked up, um, somewhere else:
Anyone who kept better notes than I did (i.e. everyone) please feel free to expand! |

| Just running though the figures, total MPG was 40.57. Not bad for a 1 litre fully laden. |

Just worked ours out...........oops!
29.7mpg
And that's including the 4-mile descent of the Connor Pass being done in neutral with the engine switched off...........the brakes needed a hefty shove once we'd used up the vacuum in the servo!
If I take out the day when the hose split, it averages out at a slightly more respectable 35.9 mpg _________________ But you'd better be quick. Because the Allegro Equipe is a Limited Edition that's going to move like its looks! Vroom, Vroom! |

And no prizes for guessing who came top (or is it bottom?) in the oil consumption stakes.
Well, we were driving an E-series!
One gallon consumed over 1750 miles..........that's just over 200 miles per pint
As we were lead car for most of the trip as well, the others were able to share in our achievement, using both sight and smell _________________ But you'd better be quick. Because the Allegro Equipe is a Limited Edition that's going to move like its looks! Vroom, Vroom! |
