Anybody know where I can get a new or decent second hand Petrol tank and a tank sender unit for my 1979 1100 Allegro? _________________ 1979 Allegro 1100 deluxe 2 Door Saloon

Thanks Graham.
I have sent my petrol tank to Hartlepool Radiators who have quoted me between £280-320+VAT to renew the tank. This is what the e-mail read.
We cut the tank open and shot blast back to bare metal inside and outside to remove any rust, carry out the necessary repairs and coat inside with a rubberised lining. The tank is baked in the oven at high temperatures, cooled and tested and then coated with Renu outside and re baked. The price is approx. £280-320+VAT
Fingers crossed it will turn out OK. With regards to the tank sender I purchased an MGB one part number ADU3218Z off of E-bay. I have looked at the sender and the only difference I can see with it against my old sender unit is the length of the pick up pipe. I will have to wait for the tank to be returned and see if it fits........If it does what a result that would be for us Aggy owners.
I will keep you updated on my progress.

Sounds expensive but if it's a good job and lasts a lifetime, and there's no alternative, then not so bad. Certainly sounds thorough anyway. Good stuff!
I think the Maxi sender also fits but has the same problem the MGB one has, the pick up pipe is different. I guess the MGB one might be easier to get hold of though. Should be straightforward enough to adapt either. Just a bit of plumbing
Thanks for posting this useful info. Good luck! |

| Just spotted this post and think I might let them have a look at my tank. They are only 25 mile from me and have always done an excellent job on classic radiators for me and I have often noticed lots of fuel tanks getting treatment there. It just seems very expensive when I remember buying a brand new tank for an allegro I had about 15 years ago for £50 trade price! |

| The last "New" one the club had sold last year for £300 so not such a bad shout. Let us know how it goes! |

| I don't know if Stefan got his tank back but I've just dropped mine off at Hartlepool Rads today and they have quoted me the same. It wasn't as bad as I first thought when I got it out and brushed all the loose paint and rust off. It will need a welded repair on one seam and a patch letting in on the top but then once coated it is guaranteed for 3 years. So with the price of that, a new carpet set and the headlining material I've spent a lot more than I bought the car for! |

Oh isn't that always the way though!
You've only just started too
Thanks for letting us know. 3 year guarantee is pretty good and gives some peace of mind I guess.
Cheers, |
