VP dash insert is finally done apart from the cutouts for the side air vents and the new LED warning lamps. Once all the holes are there I can cover the new insert in the yellow vynil to match the new seats which are also almost ready.
The alloys are back from the paint shop and ready for the 195/50 r 15 tyres.
Next bit is the new headlining, once thats in I can reassemble the car including the new carpets and soundproofing which has also arrived.
Thers a pic of the dash on the link in the first post
More news in a week or so |

Dash is now covered, updated pics on the Flikr link in the first post - this might be something for Steve to look at, I know he`s into dash customising !!
The upholstery is being fitted in the next week - the vinyl on the dash pics is the same material as the rest of the seats and interior. The warning lights are awesome, I`ve fitter high intensity LEDs instead of bulbs, so they all appear clear until they light up in the correct colour. I`ve powered them up to check I put the right one in right hole and they are really impressive. The car itself is in the paint shop ATM , I decided to get another coat on it in the spray booth to get a perfect finish. The bonnet and bootlid are already done and he`s made a really good job of them.
All people involved in the project know that this car WILL be in Birmingham for the annual so I look forward to meeting all the members on the site in person at last.
More news next week !! |

| Love the dash Alan, can't wait to see the car in the metal (and vinyl). LEDs sound like a big improvement. |

Quick update - wifey has finished the headlining, not a job for the faint hearted I can tell you ! Looks fantastic, just hope I don`t screw up fitting it next week when the car is back. Pics added to the Flikr link above.
We`ll be keeping all the measurements so if anyone needs a new headlining and fancies a go, there`s material available from the spares service, also woolies.co.uk stock it too
Cheers all |

The final push is now on. I got the car back from painting yesterday, and today the new head lining went in - what a job! Took us 3 hours to fit, it`s really a job for a master coachbuilder although perseverance paid off and it looks quite smart. The hard part is stretching the fabric evenly so that the wrinkles are all gone. The bonnet is back on and new washer jets fitted. Ive fitted the new style mist jets instead of normal ones, the washer pump was duff so here`s a tip for series 3 owners - the pump from a Skoda / BMW fitment fits after a little mod to the wiring ! This applies to series 3 where the pump is clipped into the bottle. The alloys are ready to fit with brand new 195/50r15 tyres. Tomorrow I`m doing a full day again, more interior trimming, cut out the rear shelf to take the new 16cm speakers ( I have a pair of Infinity 6x9`s but past experience with the Sport reminded me that they don`t work well in the rear shelf so I`m using normal speakers After all, there`s a subwoofer in the boot so 16cm round ones will do. trim wise the new covers are going onto the "A" and "B" pillars, the old wheels are coming off at last and the inner arches are getting a coat of tetraseal then it`s on with the alloys. The doors can be reassembled and the central locking motors installed. All in all a couple of busy days ahead, so it`s early to bed for me tonight!
Cheers all |

Hi Tim
I`ve got at least eight spare rims and tyres you can have, would probably make more sense to take a set of mine and have them refurbed leaving yours on the car for now
Let me know
BTW latest pics are up showing a little more of how the car looks now |

Hi all
Quick update - car will deffo be in Birmingham though I`m having problems with the upholstery guy, so I have a backup interior from my spares car if all else fails. The front end is all rebuilt, the doors are al finished apart from the door cards and I`ve insured the car from next Monday - got a great deal from Performance Direct at £139 with an agreed value of £3000, the alloys, interior, respray and exhaust are covered too. Fully comp with £100 excess, I`m chuffed to bits!!
MOT on Monday next week ( like it`s gonna fail, right ) then it`s off to tax it
See you all hopefully in a couple of weeks
