Wish I could have thought of a more imaginative title, but oh well. Laughing

Just joined the club with my Daughter as associate member. We have recently bought an Allegro, which we will be restoring over the next couple of years for my Daughter to use as her first car. I will put pics etc in the Members Motors section, but it's a 1975 S1 1100 deluxe 2 door that has been off the road for 20+ years.

I've been in to BL motors most of my life. My Dad had Maxi's, my Grandad had a new Allegro in 1974 and I have had two myself-a 1300SDL MK1 and later an Equipe.
I have two Porsches and a BMW at the moment-nothing too modern, of course, but it's nice to be messing with BL tin again!

Welcome, John.

That will be a very rewarding project and it will be interesting to hear the results of tuning an 1100 engine for more power, as everybody else seems to throw them away and fit a modified 1300 instead.

How long ago did you own the Equipe, and do you know what became of it afterwards?

Thanks Paul.

A lot will depend on the health of the existing engine-it hasn't run for 20+ years! If it is healthy, it seems a shame to scrap it, and let's face it, there's no shortage of Mini tuning parts! Very Happy
If it's knackered, I'll probably be going the 1275 Metro route I suspect.

My Equipe was the first car I bought for myself after I passed my test-in approx. 1985. Used it as my wedding car in 1987 (Got photos somewhere) and traded it in for a Cortina Ghia in roughly 1989-90. The poor thing was in a state when I bought it-from an "Arthur Daley" dealer-luckily I bought the warranty, because within 12 months it needed an engine rebuild, new gearbox and clutch and both sills replacing! It had been resprayed, so I reinstated the original stripes at great cost. Later, I did a quad headlamp conversion and fitted Wolfrace Sonic alloys (Which were specially made!) What happened to it after that I have no idea but it's since disappeared according to the DVLA. Reg was DOB 263V. I also worked with a woman at that time who had another Equipe-reg on that one began MHA...
