Hi guys thought I would let you know before seeing Dale on ebay, that the time has come to sell him Crying or Very sad

After many years of carefree motoring I have reached the need to get a more powerful car so keeping to the Leyland theme I have bought a Rover 800si auto 2.5 so slightly more power.
If anyone is interested I'm looking for about £1200 for the car and a shed load of parts including recon 1500 engine, boxed fog lamps, rear mudflaps ,hydragas pump + Unipart fluid, new bake master cylinder,fuel pump, water pump,fuel tank sender unit and trust me loads and loads more stuff if anyone is interested please let me know before 2:00 today I can forward pics etc thanks Kevin

Hi Kev,

Good luck with the sale but I just wanted to let you know you've listed it in the Austin Brochures section.

It needs to be in the Classic cars > Austin section else it won't be seen with the other Austin Allegro's that are for sale.

I happened to find it by accident when looking for an old brochure.

Kevin,

You really need to cancel that listing (search for 'end early' in the eBay 'Help' section)

If somebody bids on your car and wins the auction, eBay will help themselves to 10% of the sale price as commission. That would mean £120 if you get your asking price Shocked

Unless you can presuade the winning bidder to agree to cancel the transaction afterwards.

Ebay is fine if you want a quick sale (assuming there's a willing buyer out there) due to the urgency/real time format of the auction. But it is damned expensive!

I have sold a number of older cars in recent years using www.carandclassic.co.uk : it is FREE, and includes two listings in the weekly 'Classic Car Buyer' paper. Classic Car Weekly also costs nothing to advertise in.

Sale may take a little longer, though.

Good point but with the eBay auction I got more than I anticipated I would with my recent sale which more than covered the eBay fees.

In my experience it's better than a fixed price as it's possible someone out there is prepared to pay more than you have your car advertised for which proved true in my case two times, once with the Applejack Allegro and secondly with my recent eBay sale. I love the massive pictures you can put on eBay also, I think they really help in pulling in more potential buyers.

Carandclassic.co.uk is a good option as it's free but I don't think the weeklies are much good with their minute little thumbnails.

Isn't it strange how these things work out?!

I've been watching your sale with interest, as I do with almost all the Allegros that end up on ebay. Funny that you mention the need for a more powerful car as I talked myself out of pinging a cheeky question via ebay reference a potential deal with my MG ZT-T 160+!

Not that it would have come to anything, mostly because my wife would have gone totally booloo at me for even thinking about Allegro #2! (and we technically need an estate for the dog!) But still, strange how these events and non-events occure?!

Good luck with the sale, just wish I had the cash around to take her on myself! Sad
